Synopsis
Michael's close friend Tara just passed away, only no one from her family came to the funeral. So Michael, his brother Jonathan, along with a few friends from college decided to throw a remembrance party and pass out fliers in Tara's home town in hopes that someone close to her past would show up. Unfortunately the town they entered looked to be abandoned, yet an ancient horror resided beneath the ground waiting to be released, thirsting for their blood.
Chapter 1
THE RIDE THERE
You guys ready? This should be our last neighborhood. It's a small town called Winston,
Michael blurted from the drivers seat of the van. He then adjusted the rear view mirror while slightly gazing at his friends and younger brother as they sat behind him in the van.
So Michael---You and Jonathan knew Tara, for a long time? I mean you practically known her since high school. You guys even spent most of your college years together. You never met her family-- I mean at all?
Maria questioned as she sat in the front passenger seat next to Michael.
''Well--- Yeah we known Tara for quite a while but--," Michael mumbled but was quickly interrupted by his younger brother Jonathan.
She's mostly Michael's friend. He's the one who hanged with her the most. I always thought of her to be kind of weird--- heh,
Jonathan blurted in levity.
What a way to talk about your dead friend Jonathan--ha---don't forget to tell her family that when we see them,
Allen exclaimed from the third row back seat of van. He wore a slight grin as he looked to his left at Joey to chime in on his humor. Though Joey sat in a blank stare out the vans window.
I know-- that was kind of messed up Jonathan--hehehheha,
Tiffany blurted while looking down at her cell phone, speed texting friends from home.
Well-- I met Tara through Jonathan. Tara's more of a --- I mean less of a talkative and lively person. Hunh-- Jonathan---Yes we all know my brother which is totally the opposite,
Michael exclaimed.
Hey-- what other way to be?
Jonathan questioned.
When me and Tara met we definitely clicked as--,
Michael exclaimed but was cut off by Jonathan once again.
Nerdy people,
Jonathan blurted while looking to Michael in the rear view mirror as Michael did the same.
Nothing wrong with nerdy people-- My ex was nerdy,
Tiffany mumbled while still texting to her friends.
Yeah your ex was nerdy and dirty-- the one who slept with that girl from your neighborhood--- Brenda I think,
Allen blurted from the back of the van.
Shut up Allen!
Tiffany yelled as she reached back stretching her arms as if to strike Allen with her cell phone. Allen continued to laugh out loud blocking his face from her attack.
No seriously you guys. Tara was a good girl. I know it, Jonathan knows this--and Tara's gone now. We never met her family, but she said she was from Winston. Every time I asked her about her family she doesn't say much, just that her family misses her, but she doesn't want to go back. Also no one was at the funeral and it's all a bit weird, but maybe they have no idea she's dead. I had no information, nor did the school. I tried to find something and the only thing I got to go on is that she's from Winston. So that's why I want to post these fliers throughout her home town. Just invite who ever comes to the remembrance party,
Michael exclaimed.
Yeah hopefully someone will turn up, I mean--- Their her family. Unless they are like some creepy cannibals or something,
Tiffany exclaimed. Maria then looked to and gave an embittered look to Tiffany as well as everyone else on the van. Only Joey continued to look out the vans window.
Yeah but I think your ex was a cannibal too, because I'm pretty sure he ate Brenda---- hhehehhehhahhahaha!
Allen blurted sarcastically.
Jonathan!
Everyone on the van blurted out loud. Followed by snickering and giggles. Tiffany once again reached to attack Jonathan with her cell phone.
While everyone in the back of van continued to laugh and praise Jonathan's rude humor, Maria looked to Michael. She could see a wave of despondency come over him. There suddenly seemed to be no expression of humor or joy on his face, even in the midst of his friends who continued to project it within the van.
Are you okay?
Maria questioned as she slowly reached over and placed her left hand on his shoulder.
Uh---yeah. It's just----,
Michael mumbled but was cut off by Maria.
Its not your fault Michael,
Maria assured Michael.
Yeah-- I just wish I was there for her when it happened. I was always there--- Just this time I wasn't,
Michael exclaimed.
We can't always be there. No matter if we say we can. That's never true. I think she knew you would have. Just this time she didn't want you to. She made that choice Michael----not you,
Maria spoke in surety.
Yeah ----- your right. I uhh--- I'm glad your here Maria,
Michael exclaimed as he gave a quick smile to Maria as she looked to him heart filled, wit a huge smile on her face.
Look there's the sign!
Tiffany blurted while pointing towards right side window.
Yeah you guys we are definitely here. Tiffany was right. Your friend is from creepy town,
Allen mumbled while gazing out the backseat
