    PROLOGUE

When Missy opened her eyes, she realized that she was home in bed. She headed to the kitchen to make some coffee.  After all the years of drinking dreamtini’s, she thought she’d be immune to them, but she wasn’t; this side effect differed from the normal.

She normally drank one after a long stressful day.  She’d wake up the next day thinking the day before was a dream until someone reminded her why she had the drink.  She found it kind of strange to be dreaming about her ex-boyfriend and a guy she used to be in a study group with back in college.  Her telephone rang.  Hello.

Good morning and how was your night?

    Confused, Nikki?

Yes, did I catch you at an inconvenient time?

No, I just woke up.  I had the strangest dream last night.

I’m pretty sure you’ll eventually tell me about it.  But, I just called to remind you that, I’m flying into the Bahamas tomorrow night so don’t start having too much fun without me.

I didn’t forget.  Had you booked your ticket when I told you to, we would all be on the same flight, arriving at the same damn time but that’s all on you.  Changing the topic, Question for you, did Lamont tell you anything about his friend?

No. I thought you were meeting him last night?

I thought so too, but when he came over, he was alone. He said his friend had something to do.  Oh well, if I don’t talk to you later, I’ll see you tomorrow night.  She hung up the phone and picked up her cup of joe.  As she headed to the living-room, the doorman was buzzing her.  She went to the door, Yeah?

    Lamont is here.

You can let him come up.  She unlocked her door and went to the couch.  As she turned the television on, she heard him coming in.  Lock the door behind you.

Don’t tell me you’ve been on this couch since last night? He said making his way to the couch.

Even if I was, it’s my house I can sleep wherever I want.  But no, I slept in my bed.

What did you do after I left?

I made myself a dreamtini and went to sleep.

Your let me forget about today and knock me the hell out drink?

That’s a very potent drink.  And last night it made me have a bizarre dream.

You had a dream?  Doesn’t it always make you think the day before was a dream?

    Yeah, but last night. Wow!

What made you have one last night?  I thought you had a good day.

I did but after you left, I just made one.  Never will I do that again.  Hell, after last night’s dream I just might have to give them things up.

Laughing, Are you serious? What did you dream about to make you of all people say that?

Hell yeah I’m serious, if I’m dreaming about Jerry and a guy named Alan from college, I don’t need to drink them.

Tell me about this dream. What happened?

I’m home relaxing watching the Cavs game, and my cell phone keeps ringing.  The call was coming from a blocked number and you know I don’t answer calls from blocked numbers.  The person ends up getting me on my house phone.  It’s Jerry.

Jerry? As in, my best friend, your ex-boyfriend, Jerry?

That’s the only Jerry that I know.  I initially hung up on him but after the game, he calls back asking me to come to his hotel room because he needs to talk.  I wind up going.  When I get there, we go to his room and he ends up telling me that he is no longer married.  I inform him that I’m two weeks away from getting married.  At some point during our conversation, you call my phone thinking you called him.  I hand him the phone and I make us a drink and I end up making him a dreamtini.

Laughing, Wait a minute. Jerry was married? Got a divorce? Came back to New York to tell you and you were engaged? Soon to be married?  That’s funny because neither one of you is in a relationship but okay.

Shut up.  I give him the drink; we continue to talk, and I see him getting drowsy because I made that bitch strong.  Once I heard him snoring, that was my cue to leave.  I get home and make myself a dreamtini and fall asleep. The next morning Sunny calls reminding me about our trip to the Bahamas and then you call asking me about the night before.  In my head, I’m thinking why the hell are you asking me? Naturally, I don’t remember what happened.  I start receiving calls from the blocked number again and I don’t answer.  Sunny and I make it to the Bahamas.  The phone calls pick-up there.  Sunny and I are in the room when you call and ask me about Jerry.  After hanging up with you, I get my journal out of my bag.  I read the last entry.  Then I have Sunny read it. She closes the book and asks, what am I going to do about Jerry and him wanting me back. The next day which is our first full day there who do we run into?

    Extremely curious, Who?

    You and Jerry.

Wow, that’s crazy and we’re going to the Bahamas tomorrow.

"Tell me about it.  I agree to have dinner with him that night and over dinner, he tells me I need to come with a reason for calling off my wedding.  I let him know that that’s not happening.  The next night we all have dinner.  When we get back from the Bahamas, the drama with Jerry begins.  We even have a few sexual encounters.

Missy, are you serious?  This is crazy and funny at the same damn time.

Yes I am and no, it’s not funny.  I’m not done.

    Laughing, My bad, please continue.

You guys had a joint bachelor and bachelorette party for me and my fiance at my mother’s house.  You tell me you have a surprise for me in my old bedroom.  It’s Jerry. We have sex and he asks me to postpone my wedding for six months and if I didn’t want to get back together with him, then get married.

    Are you serious Missy?

    Laughing, It gets better.

Go ahead you have my full attention.  He said as he got comfortable on the couch.

You and Jerry make an appearance here in this apartment, where he meets my fiance.  You of all people know how cocky Jerry can be?  He was that.  All three of you end up going out together.  I see him a day or two before my wedding day and we have our final sexual encounter.  Then comes my wedding day.  Now as I’m walking down the aisle, I spot him sitting between his mom and your mom.  When Rev. Brown asks if there was anyone who objected, he did.  He got up but as he was coming to the aisle, he tripped and fell hard.  You and someone else, carry Jerry to a room in the back.

    Shocked.  Missy?!

Wait here’s where it gets weird.  When he comes to, we’re in this living-room.  I’m waking him up to let him know that I was going for my morning jog and he tells me the same dream I’m telling you.  We walk outside I go for my run and he goes his way.  He comes back here, straightens up, places candles all over.

Interrupting, Missy wait, are you serious?

She looked at Lamont for a moment, before she continued.  He makes me sit in the living room while he lights candles in the bedroom.  He comes back for me, makes me close my eyes and we go to the bedroom.  When I open them, we’re standing in the middle of a heart that he formed with the candles.  He asks me to marry him and I say yes.  As he’s holding me, I close my eyes, and it seemed as if his hold was getting tighter and when I shouted out his name, that’s when I woke up.

It was like you had two dreams in one.

Exactly.  I want no more dreamtini’s.

When’s the last time you spoke to Jerry?

"A few weeks ago.  He said that he was about to re-locate but he didn’t know where. Why?

No reason but that was a crazy dream.  But to me, it sounds like that you still want Jerry.

Interrupting, How does that sound like I want him back?

It’s your subconscious talking to you through your dreams.

Annoyed, Don’t you have somewhere to be?

Not for another hour.  Let me ask you if Jerry was to ask you to get back together, would you?

Lamont I honestly don’t know.  Sometimes I think that it’s possible but then there are times when I’m like no.

At least you’re honest.  And since you’re honest, then I feel that I could tell you.

    Tell me what?

He didn’t want to tell her that Jerry was returning to get
