The Double Digit Talk: Introducing Your Children to Biblical Sexuality
INTRODUCTION
It is hard to know when or how to talk to your kids about the touchy issue of sexuality. In our current culture this timeline has been accelerated. You can no longer afford to wait until your child becomes a man/woman or even until they become a teenager. The title of the booklet gives you an indication of the timeline I have observed in my own family. We chose age 10 as the time to introduce our children to biblical sexuality.
It is likely that many of you reading this book already have children who’ve been exposed to sexuality in some significant ways. I’ve never heard of anyone who had a God honoring talk about this issue with their child who regretted doing it. Nor have I heard someone tell me they thought they should have waited until their child was older. To the contrary, I’ve heard many who regretted waiting until they thought the time was just right. Often they have found themselves late to the conversation, and sometimes with devastating consequences.
But don’t look at this conversation like a necessary evil. If done right it can be an incredible time for you and your child of bonding together and discipleship in the Lord.
By way of instruction let me encourage you to read through this whole book as part of your own preparation. This will help you avoid getting ahead of yourself and will let you begin your own spiritual preparation as well.
In this short book I will cover the basics of biblical sexuality that is appropriate for children. We start in Genesis with
