A Billionaire Romance: A Montgomery Billionaire Short Story
()
About this ebook
Danger oftentimes breeds desire, lust, carnal pleasures—at least with us it did…
A threat to our only child's life put us into seclusion in an Arizona desert.
Underground, supposedly safe, we found ourselves with nothing but time to kill.
Our son, under constant guard, was well taken care of, leaving us alone.
And when my wife and I were left alone, we always found ways to entertain ourselves.
Doing everything we could to protect our young son rekindled our love.
We'd been told that none of us would make it out alive.
Could we prove them wrong?

Jackson played with his toy soldiers as the driver took us to my son’s private school. I gazed out the window, enjoying the color of the fall leaves ranging from pale green to brown then to red. Autumn had always been my favorite season.
Momma?
my five-year-old son asked me.
Pulling my eyes away from the stunning scenery, I gave him my attention. Yes, Jack?
Do you think Miss Randolph will let us do finger painting today?
He put his toys down as he looked at me, blue eyes twinkling. He was every bit his father’s son. Right down to the dark hair and sapphire eyes so piercing that they appeared to look right through you.
Tapping my fingers on the leather seat, I answered, Well, you are in kindergarten where you do all kinds of fun arts and crafts, so you never know what your teacher might have up her sleeve.
He nodded, knowingly. Yeah, she’s got lots of surprises.
She better have. My husband and I paid a pretty penny for the private school. Jackson was our only child. Not that we weren’t trying for another one—only no pregnancies came.
My husband, Lucas, had his little doppelgänger in our son. I would’ve loved to have a little girl who, at the very least, resembled me a bit. Jack didn’t look a thing like me; he was the spitting image of his father, a father who’d been putting far too much of himself into his work as of late. Being a man who makes billions of dollars each year takes time, he tells me.
I knew that. I accepted the fact. But lately, I’d become lonely.
With Jackson in school, I had free time. Too much free time, to be honest.
I’d gained my master’s degree in childhood development, but I’d yet to do anything with it. Being Lucas Montgomery’s wife and Jackson’s mother took all my time.
Or at least it had. Before Jackson started school.
We pulled up to the little private kindergarten. Children played behind a tall fence meant to keep strangers away from these prominent progenies. Only the richest five-year-olds went to this school.
One could surely attest to that if they looked around at all. Bodyguards were everywhere. They were trained to lay low and stay out of the way, but to keep a keen eye on their charge at all times.
Jackson’s bodyguard sat in the front passenger seat. He got out and came around back to open the car door. I helped Jackson out of his booster seat, kissing his cheek before he took Ayce’s hand. Here we are, little man. It’s Friday. I hope we get ice cream today.
Me too, Mr. Ayce!
came my son’s enthusiastic reply. And cake, too!
I laughed. Ice cream and cake? Is it someone’s birthday?
Ayce winked at me. You never know. One can always hope. We’ll see you at three, Mrs. Montgomery.
I’ll be here with Chuck, waiting for you guys,
I said as I waved goodbye.
The driver, Chuck, rolled down the interior window that separated us. And where would you like to go have breakfast this morning, Mrs. Montgomery?
After taking a minute to think about it, I’d made my decision and told him, Take me into town. I want to have breakfast with my husband this morning.
He looked at me through the rearview mirror. Should I call his assistant to set that up?
I’ll make the call,
I let him know.
He rolled the window back up, and I pulled my cell out of my purse. Finding my husband’s name, I pushed the button to call the man who I’d seen very little of in weeks—no, make that months, and nearly a year of them.
Lucas usually didn’t get home until after I was in bed. He’d slip into our California king-sized bed without disturbing me. And he would slip right back out of it before I woke up at seven each morning.
Other than Sundays, I didn’t get to see the man I’d married. On Sundays, he would make sure to stay home for the first half of the day. We would eat breakfast as a family, and then we’d retreat to some interior living area in our mansion to spend a few hours together as a family. Eventually, our time together would end with Lucas getting a phone call that would take him away from us once more.
Something had to change. And I had to make sure it did.
A woman answered my husband’s phone, Hello, Mrs. Montgomery. Your husband is in a meeting right now. He left his cell with me. What can I help you with this morning?
His assistant, Abigail, often played go-between for us. Frustration had me gripping the phone. My words came out short and snappy. I. Want. To. Speak. To. My. Husband. Make it happen!
Oh!
she sounded surprised. I think he’ll be done in about a half hour.
Good. I’ll be there by then. I want him to come down to our car and go with me to eat breakfast,
I informed her. And I will not take no for an answer.
They served breakfast in the meeting he’s in,
she said—as if I cared at all.
That doesn’t matter to me. I’ll text when we pull up in front of the building. Make sure he knows that if he doesn’t come down to me, I will storm into the building cursing like a sailor on leave the entire way up to his office.
I wasn’t about to stay calm and rational. I wanted to shake things up, and I would do what was necessary to accomplish my goal.
I will do my best, Mrs. Montgomery. Please just be patient,
she told me.
I ended the call. I was going to be patient anymore. I’d been that for far too long now. It was time to start showing my husband just how impatient I could be.
Not only did our son need more time with his father in his life, but his wife needed it too. And I was going to
