For most students, reaching the summit of an academic career has always been an elusive fact. Many have, unfortunately and ignorantly too, concluded that such a fact is an exclusive reserve for those who possess some stardust or are simply born with an x- factor to do it!
These pessimistic factors tend to not only limit their intellect but also cripple their potential thus subjecting them to the offerings of an average performance or even less. Fortunately, too, it feels good to hear that for every problem, there is a solution: just as for most diseases, there are remedies.

Prologue
Do I have what it takes?
One daring afternoon, Sidney (fictitious name) came to see me. He sat opposite me and sobbed. He had failed his college promotional examination twice despite the effort he had put in and that frustrated him - a lot. His plight didn’t shock me. I had been there once. More so, I did not agree with the common belief people had about Sidney- that he was a dull guy and could never fly high academically. On the contrary I thought he was smart, in fact, I believed so.
But this was not all. Sidney did not come to see me so I could only believe in him. He sincerely wanted to know how to become an ace student- how to become a better student, how to make better grades, how to stand out and stand tall too. These were the yearnings of Sidney’s heart. This pointed me to the truth that there are pragmatic steps that can be followed by any student who desires excellence.
I am writing this book not just to Sidney but to any student who cares about their academic future. Every student who has failed before and is ready to live past their failures, who can dare for a brighter tomorrow, break out from the confines of themselves and reach out for opportunities and potentials that have slept within them for so long and those who can realize that in the journey of life, we will always be students within or outside school walls.
Here, I give to you, nuggets that have set me as well as many on the path of academic success. However, it is important to know that this list is not exhaustive but the nuggets available here can set you on the path of success you have always wanted to travel in academics and through life.
I am full of faith that the wisdom shared within the pages of this book will set you on the path of excellence. Cheers!
CHAPTER ONE
Procrastination (An excellent student’s arch enemy)
Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone- Pablo Picasso
I am taking on procrastination first, for the great havoc it has meted on many lives and destinies.
The greatest killer of time and destiny is procrastination. It can be described as the willingness to do later the academic tasks you can effectively do now. It is the habit of giving tomorrow, today’s realities.
According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, procrastination is the practice of carrying out less urgent tasks in preference to more urgent ones, or doing more pleasurable things in place of less pleasurable ones, and thus putting off impending tasks to a later
