In the treelined expanse of the Elizabeth Mall, which was to Hobart what arteries were to bodies, it took a truly awesome person, both the awesome of cool and that classical awesome of inspiring awe, to stand out from the regular cast of characters on show.

Like, all those average shoppers just walking along each side of the plaza… the many teens, those students from the College up the hill, enjoying the benches as they went on dates or laughed in their friendship groups… the buskers wrangling with everything from their vocal cords to Jamaican steel-drums; their enthusiasm, if not their skill, was to be applauded… all these people and the pigeons bobbling around and those animal statues that all Hobartians knew may have been Thylacines but equally may have been Pigs
