A short story tells of a seemingly simple travel along the road of life. Many things, both good and bad, seem to lead to more than the obvious. Following a what seems like a natural path often leads to unexpected things.
A simple story of a young man traveling on a not so special road. He encounters an older one who is more than he appears. What appears to be chance develops into changing experience that defines our lives. By making this journey the young man experiences changes that may or may not affect the world around him.

Mr. Hutchinson lives in Gallup, New Mexico. Over the years he has had the opportunity to live in eight states and traveled to many of the remaining. This has provided the joy of variety of people and places that have contributed to a diverse view of the world which aids, or contributes to his writing. So many stories start with something learned whether it results from the people we meet or the things that we encounter each and every day.A curiosity about the world in general and an obsession about our daily existence makes for a variety of interest. The smallest of details often seem of little importance but are often the piece of a larger puzzle.

Wisdom Found On the Road
A short story by JP Hutchinson
INTRODUCTION
Walking along the far edge of the road Mada heard an unusual sound coming out of a culvert nearby. Perhaps someone had tossed trash out of a car window but it somehow drew his curiosity in an unexplainable way. He had been walking for miles and it seemed like a good time to stop so he went down the small incline to investigate it and maybe just take a break. It might be something of a little value that he needed. He needed a little something to keep moving and well… the pavement was getting hot during the late afternoon and the marking on the road were becoming tiresome on his eyes.
As a young man he had fallen upon tough times. He’d dropped out of school and though he was always willing to do odd jobs when he could find them sometimes it seemed hopeless. His mother had told him that you should never stop trying
but he wasn’t sure that had been good advice
She had given him his nickname. She told him that when he was a toddler and he did something he shouldn’t have she would tell him she would say mad at ya
and he would respond with mada
. Her frown would turn into a grin and she would respond yes, yes, yes Momma… Mada
. This ended up being a joke that ended up being the name he adopted.
