All characters depicted are adults at least eighteen years of age or older.
The whole town was gathered beneath the old oak tree, watching keenly as the High Priestess prepared to draw the name of the spring sacrifice. Oskaar was eligible again, and he waited with baited breath as the town’s anticipation buzzed around him. He had been eligible for the past three years, ever since his coming of age, and though he hadn’t saved himself specifically for that purpose, he was thrilled at the prospect of losing his virginity to the God of the Wood. There was no higher honour—and no greater pleasure, according to those who had been chosen in years past.
The fertility rites occurred every spring, and the process was only open to those who had kept themselves perfectly virginal. The applicants could know no hand but their own, and imbibe no substances that would alter their thoughts or actions. It was said that some years, the God of the Wood would reject the town’s offering, and their crops and harvests would suffer—but Oskaar had never seen
