Flor Thurian - James Keith
1
Four Thurian military spaceships raced through the asteroid field at breakneck speed. Effortlessly they weaved around each other with debris scattered everywhere. Together they were firing towards a fleeing ship. On the fleeing spacecraft was Flor a Thurian who was escaping her home world, wanted for multiple crimes including, murder and treason. As each vessel shot an explosive shell their hull would shudder from the recoil. They pushed forward on the controls and their engines pulsed trying to meet the power that was needed.
Don’t let her get any further,
Agnavia the squadron leader shouted through their shared coms. Blin, drop down and get underneath her!
She lowered her weapon and set it to auto fire, shooting the rocks that the spacecraft couldn’t weave around.
Yes ma’am,
Blin shouted back. He pressed a button that shut off his thrusters and his ship dropped like a weight in water from its position within the squadron. Blin lurched back in his seat when the ship jumped back into motion and winced as his pincers jammed against the seat.
Blin was nothing more than a standard Thurian, his pincers which were very lobster-like were two feet long and his teeth were razor sharp, yet he was a lot smaller than Flor who they were trying to apprehend. Flor was the largest and most powerful of the Thurian species, easily over a foot taller than the next largest Thurian, standing almost eleven feet tall. Her claws were three feet long and her teeth were able to slice easily through steel. Her eyes were large about ten centimetres in diameter. Flor had a jaw that could be extended much like a serpent when it swallows its prey. Her dark pink colour was deeper than that of any Thurian. Many thought of Flor as a hybrid of two species due to her immense size and power, they believed that she was not only Thurian but of something else from another world, something godlike. Flor was highly intelligent, however not as intelligent as Blin.
As quickly as Blin could calculate he figured out where the ship in front of them was going to be in a matter of seconds and angled his ship exactly right. Still in pain Blin used a pincer to reach up over his head to press another button which set off the accelerator. Thrown back in his seat Blin grabbed the controls as it shot forward at impossible speeds gritting his teeth as he gained space on the fleeing ship.
The ones which remained in the formation continued to shoot at Flor and the rocks as they flew past them.
The squadron in pursuit were the best trained soldiers of the Thurian Space Force. They could fly through tight asteroid fields, planets rings, and were the best at their jobs. Known as the elite forces they could capture anyone they were in the pursuit of.
Or almost anyone.
It seemed like Flor not only could outrun them in her tiny ship but could also outdo them and their specialized piloting skills. If how their aim and how far back they were from her was anything to go by.
Flor had been one of the highest-ranking members of the marching military until she shot her commanding officer with her pulse cannon. After this she brutally murdered four civilian Thurian’s tearing their bodies apart using her razor sharp teeth and claws. It was still unclear as to why Flor did it and they couldn’t even get answers from her.
As soon as Flor had heard that she was going to be brought before the council and probably killed. She climbed into the first single pilot ship that she came across and took off without even a thought of taking any of her possessions with her.
Flor glanced behind her to the other ships heading her way and gritted her sharp teeth together. There had been four of them and they were down to three. She could only guess the fourth was the explosion she saw, most likely after it hit a rock. Their ships had much more superior technology than her own. Military Thurian ships had intergalactic speeds, more powerful cannons and homing devices. Flor’s ship was an old rust bucket used for the transportation of goods which only had one laser cannon fitted in case of an emergency.
In an act of quick thinking, Flor pressed a few buttons on the ship's dashboard that dropped the laser cannon down from the bottom of the ship. A screen blinked to life and Flor was able to see the ships chasing her, it also included the one that she thought had been destroyed. It was now racing towards her from below.
As quickly as she could Flor smashed down on the centre console that made controls push out of the wall of the ship. She pushed each of her four pincers into them, using those controls to fly the ship. That left the main control to be used as the weapon control instead of flying the ship.
Flor’s eyes kept darting from the screen to the expanse of space in front of her. All she had to do was wait for the targeting system to lock on and this would enable Flor to fire without missing. It shouldn’t have been hard either. When ships used their accelerators the only direction they could move was forward until they stopped it.
Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep!
Flor grinned maniacally as she pressed and held down on a lever. Her ship rocked from the recoil of the blasts. Swerving a bit Flor managed to keep on the path. Not even waiting to see if the laser hit before she started laughing hysterically.
Blin’s eyes opened wider than ever as he saw the blasts coming towards him. As quickly as he could he shut off his accelerator. Even then, it didn’t slow the ship down. He jerked his controls to the side.
The blast from the laser hit his left wing, forcing him off his original path into a spiral. Blin tried to correct it, but alarms were going off in the cockpit and no matter how hard he pressed the forward lever nothing happened. Blin undid his harness. I’m stranded. I’m going to try to fix this up and if you don’t have her by then I’ll be on my way to give you support.
We’ll get her,
Agnavia assured him. Everyone else spread out and keep moving. Don’t slow down not even a little bit. If you do it will be considered an act of treason. We need to stop Flor at all costs. Do you understand?
The other two Thurian’s grunted over the comms and stomped their feet against the floor of their ships. They steered off to the side and
