About this ebook

In this adventure we read about how Josh must out con Queen Mitta of the Crenoxian empire if he is to be successful in saving not only Florian, but also Clay and all the colonists from the deadly weapon created by the Crenox. Everyone must taste the antidote to the sleeping disease before their time runs out and they die.
To retrieve the antidote, Queen Mitta fails to advise Josh of the deadly corrosive gas covering the plants on a planet directly behind Silux. All they have to do to get the antidote is to think of a way to get past the gas and dig the bulbs out of the ground. Sounds easy, however, the bulbs are under a layer of corrosive and lethal gas.

    CHAPTER ONE

FLORIAN SLOWLY wandered down the Piper’s long corridor, past the small room where they stored the pieces of robots, they discovered a while back and the one remaining freezer tube from the original shuttle they were in when they crashed onto the planet. Looking over her shoulder at the bridge she could scarcely make out the robot they had built. It was supposed to be deactivated and standing next to the glass tube elevator which led to the Piper’s roof. Lately, the robot had started acting up. After a few hours of studying the problem, Josh or any of the colonists couldn’t detect the problem. They did, however, agree it might be a loose wire soldered to one of its many printed circuit boards.

Florian yawned for the umpteenth time and tried focusing on the sunlight streaming into the Piper. For some strange reason, she couldn’t stop yawning. For the first time since they crashed on Planet X91, she had overslept.

At the threshold to the outside, Florian stared up at the sky. She frowned at seeing the sun already clear of the mountains. Ten feet from the Piper’s main outside hatch, Florian viewed the sleeping colonists littering the grassland. Somehow, she knew the scene wasn’t a good sign, yet couldn’t comprehend the reason why.

This can’t be right. Florian used her hand and hid her yawn. Something’s wrong. In slow motion she turned in circles. She cupped her hands around her mouth and called. Josh, Clay, where are you? Can anyone hear my voice? I want an explanation on why the colonists are asleep on the grass. This can’t be good.

Get back inside the Piper and put on a spacesuit, croaked Clay.

Florian turned her head to the left. She giggled at seeing Clay on all fours crawling directly at her.

Get into the Piper, he called again.

    You look so funny crawling.

Clay’s arms couldn’t hold his weight up any longer. He flopped onto the grass. Forcing his eyelids to remain open he quickly used up his remaining energy.

I can’t make it to the Piper. I order you to climb into a spacesuit before it’s too late.

Instead of acting on what Clay said, Florian’s eyelids closed. Blindly, she staggered across the grassland to him.

Forget me. Get inside the Piper, ordered Clay. He closed his eyes. His head dropped the remaining few inches to the grass. A few seconds later he was asleep.

Florian turned around and staggered back to the Piper. Three steps short of making it to the hatch she stumbled over her left foot. Clutching the Piper’s hatch, she groped for the ‘close’ button. Her fingers brushed the hull as she crumpled to the ground. In seconds she was asleep.

Sergey Swires stepped out of his tent and greeted the morning. He saw Clay asleep near the Piper’s hatch. He then saw all the other colonists asleep on the ground. Sergey held his breath and ran for the closest shuttle. He wasn’t one to hold his breath for long. His personal best was no longer than six seconds.

Zig-zagging his way between several colonists, Sergey trotted across the grass. He was in time to witness one of the guards at the force field drop to his knees. A few seconds later he appeared curled into a ball and fast asleep. Many more colonists who were stepping out of their tent were fast copying the guard’s pattern.

Seven seconds after starting to hold his breath, Sergey’s lungs screamed for oxygen. He exhaled and inhaled. He instantly felt dizzy. His vision blurred. Fighting fatigue, he was only ten small steps away from the closest shuttle when he dropped to his knees. Sergey crawled on his hands and knees the remainder of the way. He vaguely saw Josh stepping from the shuttle wearing a spacesuit, carrying a bundle of clothes.

Sergey lost his battle to stay conscious and coiled up on the grass.

Josh stood at the shuttle’s open hatch, viewing the disastrous scene and closed the outer hatch. He had been sitting in the nose section reading the computer’s information about navigating through the black holes when he saw the colonists dropping like flies. He wanted to research his idea in secret and had woken early. In the dark, he entered the shuttle and closed the outer hatch. Now his secrecy seemed to have been well timed. He determined inwardly whatever made the colonists fall asleep in their tracks must be airborne.

    Josh
