    Chapter 1

    Captain. Incoming secure message.

On the view screen please. Captain Candace Gibran ordered.

    It's a secure line Captain.

It's Mr. Grim he has been trying to give me orders recently, pipe the line through the ship's intercom, and record the conversation, Gibran ordered.

She had grown very tired of Mr. Grim, and the Admirals that did his bidding.

    Yes. Captain.

Mr. Grim was a businessman that owned all the debt in the galaxy and had bought out every business he could. This resulted in his ownership of basically everything. He assumed that he ran the government. Many times he was able to bully his orders into action. Captain Gibran, however, refused him at every turn.

Sure enough, it was Mr. Grim's face that appeared on the viewscreen. Ah Captain Gibran, I need a favor.

Mr. Grim, there is a chain of command, and you are not part of it. Captain Gibran stated.

I am aware of that Miss Gibran. I have a mission that will pay you handsomely. Mr. Grim offered.

You already know how little I'm interested in your offers. I am not a mercenary, and I am not for hire. She already knew that she was going to turn him down, after all, she had morals.

Ten million credits, if you take your ship and bombard New Spain from orbit. There is no risk to you or your crew.

Let me get this straight. You want me to kill citizens of the UN whom I have sworn to protect for a lousy ten million. Captain Gibran spat.

Yes, that is it. Mr. Grim, smiled he was confident that she would follow orders for this amount of money.

I will remind you again that there is a chain of command, and if you do not respect the chain of command then I will find you and beat you to death with it. Or if you prefer you can come here, and I will beat you to death with it, and then eject you with the waste where you belong.

You will pay for your insubordination. Mr. Grim was red-faced and spitting mad.

Not likely, unless you want to keep looking like a moron by arguing with me. I have work to attend to. But if you are dead set on making me pay, you can come collect anytime, I'll be waiting.

Mr. Grim was so furious his face went red, and with a fat finger jabbed a button and ended the conversation.

Less than a minute went by and a bridge officer spoke. Captain, a secure message from Admiral Ireland.

Record it, pipe it over the ship's intercom, and put it on the viewscreen.

    Yes, Captain.

The face of a crotchety old admiral filled the viewscreen. This is a secure line captain, why do I see your bridge?

I did not feel like getting up so I sent the bridge crew out for a minute. Captain Gibran replied.

The bridge crew was very much still there, they were just out of sight.

Whatever. Pirates are hiding in New Spain, I want you to bombard the planet and flush them out. The primary target is the capital city, it needs to be leveled. The Admiral ordered.

    Yes, sir.

The Admiral ended the conversation and the viewscreen when black.

Red alert, and prepare for boarding. Captain Gibran yelled.

The crew had long ago gotten used to unexpected orders and red alerts seemingly announced at random.

All stations reporting ready. Commander Rigort said. Rigort was her first officer and had been for four years now.

Captain Gibran walked to her comms officer and picked up a microphone. Ship's intercom please. She requested.

Comms ready. the bridge officer said.

This is your captain. You heard what Mr. Grim wanted us to do, and then you heard the same orders coming from Admiral Ireland. We are not going to follow those orders. If anyone does not agree with my decision, you are armed so feel free to take the ship. If you disagree with my orders and do not want to fight, notify your chain of command and confine yourself to your quarters, and we will leave you in New Spain.

Commander Rigort spoke with a smile. So you arm the crew, and give them a chance to take over? You are a Marine.

    "They can
