The Squall
It was 1782 when massive waves slammed hard against the frigate HMS Enmity. Her officers held tight to the railings. Even seasoned deck hands scrambled for footing, as the ship jolted violently under their feet. Riggings were breaking lose, and unbattened hatches crashed loudly against their openings through the angry sea.
Capt. Linton, and first mate, Lt. Matthews, watched from the quarterdeck as the crew struggled below. It was impossible for the men to hear the Captain’s orders, but sea-dogs that they are; they knew what to do to save the ship. The seamen tied themselves to whatever they could, in hopes of not being washed overboard while performing their duties.
