She's everything a man could dream of.

The sparks between us were immediate.

Things escalated far too quickly.

    Chapter 1

    Alice

I can’t believe you talked me into this, I said.

The deep feeling in my gut felt like my stomach was churning at a rate of a hundred miles per hour. It was flip flopping like crazy and I felt a little bit sick. This was the stupidest thing I’d ever been talked into and I was really nervous about it. I kept looking around hoping that no one here recognized me. It was kind of embarrassing, but then again I saw a lot of other classy, beautiful women all there having a blast ready to see some men.

The billionaire date auction was something I’d heard about ever since I moved to Las Vegas about three years before to attend college. It was a great town with a lot of fun, and this was one of those events that had gained a huge following in recent years. But still, the idea of paying for some hunky billionaire’s time seemed a little smarmy to me. My friend Kat dragged me to this thing because she didn’t want to go alone with Mary or Lucy. They were good friends, but somehow they all felt better when I was there. I wasn’t sure why.

And they all loved to see me get nervous. It was like some kind of a crazy outing for them.

We found our seats and I leaned back in the chair beside our table. It was a good spot. We could see the whole stage from there. I was surprised so many wealthy men signed up to do this. I mean, it as for charity, so it was a great cause, but it was still parading yourself around there like some piece of meat. It was degrading. Yet, a part of me found it very enticing indeed.

You will love it, Kat said. You shouldn’t be so negative. I’m sure you’ll find the hunk that meets your impossible standards.

I do not have impossible standards. I just want a good guy, I defended myself.

Kat rolled her eyes at me. Yeah, but that means a guy who is perfect in every single way. Well, these guys are close.

No, I don’t want perfection. I’m not sure where you get that from. Besides, these guys aren’t perfect. Just because they have money doesn’t mean they are great guys at all.

It’s a good start though, Lucy chimed in.

I had to laugh. The girls were crazy. And now that we were seated and the event was about to get underway, I found that I was actually starting to enjoy myself a little bit. It felt good to get out a little. To get my mind off Jacob. Ah... Jacob. He always found a way to get into my head. I’d broken up with my ex-boyfriend Jacob about three months before. He still called and texted hoping we’d get back together eventually, but I just wasn’t ready. I didn’t think it would ever happen. He’d hurt me too deeply.

I tried not to think about it, but the harder I tried, the more it would eat me up inside. I will never forget seeing him in bed with some random girl. It would have been better in a way if it was someone that we both knew, or someone he had inadvertently gotten close to and developed feelings for. That would have been bad enough, but somehow understandable that it could happen. But to pick up some random hitchhiker and take them back to his apartment.

I’d dropped in to surprise him on my way home from a Rascall Flatts concert. Jacob hated Country music, so I went with Kat. After I dropped her off, I decided to go by Jacob’s to spend some time with him since I left him alone while I went to the concert.

And that was when I caught him. I could hear the moans through the door of his apartment. At first I thought he might be sick. I used my key and entered. When I did, I heard his moans mixed with a woman’s. I instantly felt sick as I walked to his bedroom and opened the door.

And he thought that I could ever forgive a mistake like that. Really? That was what he thought? It was over. It would always be. I would never go with a man I couldn’t trust.

I tried to clear my mind and concentrate on the show. I wasn’t sure what I was going to see here other than some very rich guys who were putting themselves out there on the date auction. It sounded ludicrous, but again it could have been a very fulfilling fantasy.

Yet, I’ve never been turned on by money. Wealth does nothing for me. I don’t care how much a guy makes. But these guys were supposed to be handsome and sexy as well. Kat kept trying to get me to look at the website that had the guys listed profiles. I had refused. I would rather be surprised. I might not find anyone I really wanted to bid on, but then again it was for a great charity. I had to bid on someone. But I didn’t necessarily have to go out on a date with them even if it was encouraged and paid
