About this ebook

Cheyenne, Luna and Bruno are very close and are outcast in the Chimeran society. They try to live off the grid but are pursued by people who have ties behind the political figures of the time. They stumbled onto the connection between worlds that was being used to transport people into slavery. The girls had to go even further into the background to combat the evil they perceived as coming into their world.
The Rhumgold Sagas delve into politics of an abandoned society. Abandoned because Earth didn't try to provide a means of recovery for the people who had made the trip to the Antares star system. The Guild becomes the overlords of society and closely monitor the lives of Chimeran society. But, even the most closed society has people who are not going to 'toe the party line.'
Mhel'Sargonus is one such, having received training from the Marconians - the original inhabitants of Chimera. He stands with Cheyenne and her friends as they combat the stifling Guild and try to free their people from the tyranny of the ruling class. Read and Enjoy!

    C1 A Rupture in Time

Wan light filtered through wintry trees as a chill wind threatened to whip anything or anyone who bothered to be outside on this of all days of the year. Aldus voiced his concern and tried to rub up against her legs, but Cheyenne kicked him aside as she surveyed the large grassy area that had opened out of the thick forest. She saw nothing moving – clear over to the other side of the open meadow which was about a half mile distant.

Cheyenne’s hand cupped her wounded breast as she continued to look out upon the waves of grain as they were whipped back and forth by the errant wind. She didn’t like becoming a target out in the open. Too many eyes in the world to make her feel comfortable exposing herself.

The last time I exposed myself I lost my best friend and parts of my own body. She felt where the tips used to be on her chest and realized not for the first time that she had been ruined for any man. Gerard the Beast had seen to that.

She, Luna and Aldus had been out on a quest for one of the villages. They were dispatched to look for a special root that resembled the mandrake. It was needed by the apothecary for a medicine he was concocting to cure people of the village who had been stuck down by a misery of the bowels.

They had completed their quest and were returning to the village when Gerard’s men laid in wait for them. Luna was trussed up with a knife to her throat. That had pretty much taken the fight away from Cheyenne – both women had been tied and taken to stand before Gerard. The cat had made his own escape – as felines usually do in times of stress.

Gerard had demanded their service – which Cheyenne refused. She and Luna had made a pact that they would bow before no man. She didn’t wish to break their agreement. Not for someone as unattractive as Gerard. His teeth were the first thing any woman noticed. They were green and red from the betel nuts he consumed. The juice from the nuts scored and rot set in quickly to maim those who consumed them.

Gerard was also cursed with having eyes that didn’t set right. His left eye canted to the right – giving him a permanent look of being out of touch with reality.

But this covered up his most un-redeeming trait – he was a malicious bastard who took delight in hurting people.

As she had found out when she refused his offer of sponsorship. She didn’t want to be his woman and she let him know it. He decided he would rather turn her loose than wake up one morning with her knife in his throat, so he cast her out of the camp. But not before he delivered one blow that he was sure would get her attention.

He had her arms tied behind her over one of the large, rear wheels of a wagon. Then her leather blouse had been ripped open exposing her very voluptuous breasts. Gerard had stepped forward and gently massaged each breast – bringing her nipples to stand out in the semi-chilled air.

Then he had taken a knife and removed each nipple – flipping them to the ground for the dogs to eat. She screamed from the sudden pain and almost passed out. Gerard then took a candle from one of the servants and pressed it into the wound. He did the same with the other breast to stop them from bleeding.

Now no man will ever want you again, he sneered as he cut the rope binding her hands. She stumbled forward and he placed his boot on her backside and kicked her on her way. The next time our paths cross I’ll take something else off you. Now get moving out of my camp, bitch! And don’t let me catch you sneaking around here again.

She had left. Luna had been retained and Cheyenne heard her screams as she was forcibly taken against her will. She picked up her pack and gingerly placed it on her shoulders as she made her way out of the camp.

Several days passed as she made her way back to the apothecary’s shop and delivered the medicinal roots they had been sent to obtain. The owner’s wife took her in hand and applied some healing salve to her wounds. Then she continued on her way.

She had to find a way to secure Luna’s release. The camp had been moved but it didn’t take her long to pick up their spoor. Gerard didn’t really try to cover their tracks and she could just see the path they had taken across the meadow in front of her.

She knelt underneath a low bough at the edge of the meadow and waited. Minutes passed into an hour and finally her patience payed off. Two of Gerard’s men rose from the grass about halfway across and seemed relieved that no one had tried to cross behind them. They turned and sprinted after their fellows. At the far end of the meadow they went to ground again and waited.

Cheyenne continued to wait until she noticed a branch move in a counter motion to the wind – she noted the passage of the two men back into the forest – away from the meadow she would have to cross.

But still she waited. Dusk fell and the temperature plummeted with the sun. The first of four moons rose in the eastern sky and cast shadows on the meadow as she crept from her hiding place and slithered as best she could amidst the vegetation of the unbroken expanse.

The largeness of the full moon cast shadows that both covered her progress and made picking up any enemies hiding in the grass impossible. She made it to the boundary with the other forest without incident and found herself a lair after she passed into the woods underneath a fallen tree. In the area where the root had upended, she found a small cave in which she could wedge herself.

The next morning awoke cold as she crept out of her lair and looked around at the thick covering of snow that lay upon the forest. She hated to travel in it but could think of nothing better to act as cover for her ventures.

She was interrupted by the appearance of Bruno – her exuberant pup of a monster dog sired by a wolf on one of the domesticated bitches from one of the villages. She and Luna had adopted the dog when he was only a couple days old. Now, at four years, he stood above her waist and was long enough to wrap around her while they slept.

He came into camp and laid a large hare on the ground in front of her. Then he licked her hand and lay down in the nest of leaves that still had her scent. Cheyenne built a small fire and roasted the meat.

With snow still falling she didn’t think she had too much to fear from Gerard’s men. They would be holed up and waiting out the storm. She had the forest all to herself.

After breakfast she snuggled up beside Bruno and fell back into a warm relaxation that made her forget there was a storm booming outside. Bruno made sure she forgot as he squirmed around and finally got his lower torso between her legs. His extremity grew inside her and she moved back and forth along its length. Her body and mind exploded together as Bruno finished up and delivered a large dash of liquid that collected between them and eventually dried up. Cheyenne didn’t care because she was warm and relaxed – snuggled up against him.

The afternoon saw a relaxation in the storm as the worst of it passed them by. It had left eighteen inches or more on the ground, on the trees and everywhere the wind could put a portion of what came drifting down. The air was crisp as Cheyenne poked her head out and sniffed. Nothing except for the tiny hint of her cooking fire from her morning meal. It would be completely dissipated as the day cooled back down.

Bruno galloped off in search of another hare. Cheyenne decided to wait on him to return before she took off. That determination was shattered once she heard him baying at something deep in the woods. She grabbed her spear and backpack and set off to investigate what would make the hound break his normal silence.

C2 Finding the Rip in Space

She ran and walked – it still took about a half hour to reach Bruno’s side. The dog’s hackles were standing up, but he was now silent except for the growls that issued from his throat. He look up at her as she interlaced her fingers in the long hairs on the scruff of his neck. Reassured by her presence he strode forward into a clearing where the snow had been packed down. Off to the right a set of tracks led off into the forest.

Cheyenne allowed Bruno to sniff around as she knelt and tried to determine how many men had been in the party. She was surprised as she found a couple sets of dainty footprints. At least two of the six in the party were women. That complicated things in her mind. They seemed to be walking beside the men as equals. Not unheard of but certainly not the norm in her world.

Bruno came back into the clearing and sniffed the ground thoroughly. He finally sat and stared into the distance at a specific point. What is there, boy? she asked.

She obviously couldn’t see what it was that he was staring at. But it had to be something concrete – else he would not have stopped where he did.

Cheyenne decided to investigate and soon found there was indeed something there as her hand passed through thin air into a dimension where it disappeared completely.

She withdrew her hand and then tested the valance again. Her hand felt warm – as if direct sunshine were shining on it. She extended her arm until her shoulder was inside the portal. It was definitely warm on the other side, so she proceeded to walk through – even though Bruno was making a noise that kind of advised her to be careful.

She had stepped into a cavern that fronted on a lake in the middle of an arid landscape. She put her right arm back through the portal and clicked her fingers. Bruno’s head appeared – followed by the rest of him as he sniffed the air of their new surroundings. Cheyenne let him explore as she stood in place – afraid that if she moved the portal would collapse.

Bruno came back after a short period of time and laid a couple water fowls at her feet. She scooped them up and then stepped back into her own world. He followed and they stood in a field of trampled snow. Off to the right side the trail of those who had come through was getting cold.

We can’t let them get too far ahead of us, she whispered softly. He seemed to understand as he took off down the trail – not waiting for her – she would catch up. Right now, he was determined to run their quarry to ground and find out what they were doing.

Cheyenne caught up with him about two miles away and hunkered down to observe the camp. There were indeed four men and two women in the party. The women seemed to be the ones in control and the men performed individual tasks around the camp. Cheyenne could hear their speech but couldn’t understand it. She
