    I was once a great man, you know.

    I’m not ashamed to say that I had it all. Money. Success. Respect. A wife who loved me. Children who adored me. Friends. Influence.

    Power.

    I was once a great man. A very powerful man.

    But none of that matters now.

    None of it.

    Because everything I ever had was wrenched from my hands in a matter of days.


    He came to see me, you know. Twenty years ago, in fact. Visited me in my place of business. Guy sauntered right into the lobby like he owned the place.

    Unshaven.

    Unclean.

    Unwelcome.

    I'll be honest, the guy smelled like a barnyard.

    He asked for me by name, then threatened to pitch a fit right there in front of my customers if I didn’t take the time to meet with him. I was inclined to let my security detail escort him out, but didn’t. Intrigued by such reckless audacity, however, I'll admit I was rather curious to discover what could possess a man to be so bold.

    So I had my assistant clear my schedule for the afternoon and usher a complete stranger into my office. I offered him a drink that he rudely declined, then studied him as he stared out my office view overlooking the city below.

    When he turned around, he had tears in his eyes. I was still curious, but also tired of his stalling tactics. Every minute he wasted amounted to my losing more money, so I demanded he state his purpose for coming and explain why he thought I might be interested.

    That’s when I discovered just how crazy he was.

    The lunatic started babbling about a ‘vision’ he’d had, how God had a mission for him… blah, blah, blah. I sat there straight-faced and calm, listening to him rant and rave about what he believed the future would hold. After many minutes of unbearable, endless tangents later,
