About this ebook

A mirthful and merciless skewering of the Trump administration from the senior statesman of political cartooning, Garry Trudeau.
From the Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist whose acclaimed Yuge!: 30 Years of Doonesbury on Trump blew up the bestseller list, G.B. Trudeau's final installment of his Doonesbury Trump trilogy takes readers through the dark heart of Trump's presidency and into 2020 election mania. Including two years' worth of original Doonesbury Sundays, full-color spreads, and 18 previously unpublished strips, the presciently-titled Lewser buttons up our most recent long national nightmare just in time for Christmas.

Another fine visit with the Doonesbury cast, though at this point, the strips are less humorous than overwhelmingly depressing. Not only do I have to relive last year's Trump lowlights, the strips at the end start getting into the COVID-19 pandemic. But hey, one of the couples in the book has a baby and one regular finds herself rubbing elbows with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in the Capitol.

LEWSER! (2020) by G B Trudeau. At one point Donald Trump called Mr. Trudeau “A total loser!” This collection of Doonesbury comics is the response to that remark.Unlike the Donald who will make a statement without a fact to back it up, this collection has page after page of facts from “The Donald”. by “The Donald” and very much illustrating the point that “The Donald” is a reckless, irresponsible, possible mad man helming the ship of state. Page after page of funny/sad comments from “The Don” are used to illuminate just how unfit he is to be in the position the Electoral College, and not the people, put him in.I have followed Doonesbury since Trout Fishing in the Reflecting Pool came out and I have never seen Mr. Trudeau miss the mark, be it Nixon, Bush, Obama or whoever. This is not for fans of “The Donald” unless they have the nerve to look at the other side other idol.

When I was much, much younger, I loved the Doonesbury cartoon strip by Garry Trudeau. Beginning in1970, it lasted throughout the rest of the Vietnam era right through the rise of neoliberalism. The political satire was always on point while providing a badly needed chuckle in those turbulent years. Sadly, the comic strip is no longer in the local newspapers (at least not mine) but Trudeau is still creating strips and the satire is, if anything, even more biting but just as entertaining as shown in Lewser!, a collection of strips during the era of Trump. It covers this administration right up to now and his *ahem* handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. For anyone in the US dealing with this insanity or for those, like me, watching it with fascination and just a little, well, a whole lot of face palming from, thankfully, a distance at least in terms of not the USA, all I gotta say is I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone looking for a little laughter to help them get through this. Oh, and to my own country's Trudeau, please, keep that border closed at least until next January. Sorry, American friends, I loves ya and hope you understand. Thanks to Edelweiss+ and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review

Rating: 3.75* of fiveYou already know if this book is for you. If you voted for 45 (why are you reading my reviews, for a start) you shouldn't even acknowledge it exists. If you didn't vote at all, pre-order it immediately for July delivery. If you didn't vote for 45, but voted, well...do you like banging your fingers in filing-cabinet drawers? Do you laugh at car wrecks? Your jam awaits. For my part, I'm just thrilled that Garry Trudeau still has the mental and visual acuity to mirror that which is painfully obvious in terms both amusing and enlightening. Even though it's a bit much taken all together. Maybe space out the read.
