About this ebook

There are many people who are enthusiastic about food—the cooking of it, the preparation of it, the serving of it, and let’s not forget the eating of it.

But Andrew Delaplaine is the ultimate Food Enthusiast.

This is another of his books with spot-on reviews of the most exciting restaurants in town. Some will merit only a line or two, just to bring them to your attention. Others deserve a half page or more.

“Exciting” does not necessarily mean expensive. The area’s top spots get the recognition they so richly deserve (and that they so loudly demand), but there are plenty of “sensible alternatives” for those looking for good food handsomely prepared by cooks and chefs who really care what they “plate up” in the kitchen.

For those with a touch of Guy Fieri, Delaplaine ferrets out the best food for those on a budget. That dingy looking dive bar around the corner may serve up one of the juiciest burgers in town, perfect to wash down with a locally brewed craft beer.

Whatever your predilection or taste, cuisine of choice or your budget, you may rely on Andrew Delaplaine not to disappoint.

Delaplaine dines anonymously at the Publisher’s expense. No restaurant listed in this series has paid a penny or given so much as a free meal to be included.

    Chapter 1

    Introduction

    ––––––––

DID YOU FIND AN INTERESTING PLACE?

If you discover a place you think I should check out on my next visit, drop me a line, will you? I’ll mention your name if I end up listing it.

San Diego is a great place for a vacation because it’s filled with adventures. Located on the Pacific Ocean in Southern California, San Diego is the second largest city in the state but has small town appeal. Sure there are plenty of beaches in San Diego but most people visit for the many theme parks like Sea World, Sea World Aquatic Waterpark, San Diego Wild Animal Park, and the world famous San Diego Zoo.

    ––––––––

San Diego is heaven to surfers and beach enthusiasts. San Diego beaches are incredible and one of the main beaches is Mission Beach, located off Highway 8 West. There you will find the Historic Belmont Park, like a Coney Island west, where you’ll find a roller coaster, bumper cars, a family arcade, and a variety of food vendors. Mission Beach is a favorite of surfers and many San Diegans can be spotted surfing every day, rain or shine because of the wealth of gentle surf breaks and year-round waves.

    ––––––––

Shopping is an Olympic sport in San Diego with so many shopping centers, regular malls, and outlet malls. San Diego’s biggest mall is Fashion Valley Mall, 1.7 million square feet of shopping, which houses major names like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Gucci, Guess, Hugo Boss, J.Crew, Louis Vuitton, Ted Baker, Old Navy, H&M, Tiffany’s & Co., and Hugo Boss. Fashion Valley is the largest mall in San Diego and one of the largest in California. If outlet shopping is your bag, then you’ll love the wealth of outlet centers on the outskirts of San Diego with shops like BCBG Max Azria, Kenneth Cole, Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, and Polo Ralph Lauren.
