Description

To reach Key West, the southernmost point in the United States, the legendary Overseas Highway travels 113 miles over more than 40 islands, each with its own story to tell. In this episode, we join host Oneika Raymond on a journey through these Florida Keys, traveling from Miami to Key Largo and all the way down to Key West. Along the way we’ll hear from the people who are preserving the Florida Keys’ unique flavors, history and culture. Our first stop is at mile marker 82 in Islamorada to meet Craig and Cheryl McBay, owners of the Florida Keys Brewing Company. Here, they craft one-of-a-kind beers like the popular Iguana Bait, a sweet honey hibiscus kolsch. Next, at mile marker 50.5 is Crane Point Hammock in the city of Marathon. We’ll meet Charlotte Quinn, for a history of the Adderley House, one of the oldest homes in the Keys, which is located here. George and Olivia Adderley built it in 1904 and it soon became the center of a thriving Bahamian immigrant community.Of course we’ll make a stop for some of the freshest seafood in the Keys. At mile marker 49 is Keys Fisheries, a fish market, restaurant, and bar famous for Lobster Reuben, conch chowder, and fresh catches of hogfish and mahi-mahi.Finally, we’ll make it to Key West to stay in the Saint Hotel, Autograph Collection. We’ll stop by the Burgundy Bar and pair views of Duval Street with the live music of Halo Rooftop Lounge.--Thanks to our guests on this episode for sharing their stories along the route.
