About this ebook

Gray Kincaid, one of the most dangerous wolf-shifters in the world, is finally home. After years spent in the wilds of British Columbia with his four brothers, Gray is looking forward to reclaiming his life as a human. But during his absence, someone has been dipping their hands into his wealth. No, not dipping. Someone’s been outright stealing from him, Gray Kincaid! The sheer audacity has him on a hunt that leads to a small female who, not surprisingly, works for his company. Regardless of how innocent she looks, or claims to be, Gray will have his money back, or he’ll keep the woman in return.

Finally, taking a long-awaited vacation, Sien McMichaels is terrified when she’s abducted by the driver sent to take her to the airport. After a failed escape attempt, she’s dragged to a massive manor and kept in a dungeon, a prisoner of the driver who claims to be Gray Kincaid. The Gray Kincaid of Kincaid Enterprises, the owner of the company where she works. He’s got the wrong woman though because Sien is a simple girl with a simple life. She wouldn’t dream of taking anything that isn’t hers and doesn’t understand when all the signs of theft point to her. She’s determined to prove her innocence to her infuriating captor even though Gray is equally committed to punishing her for crimes she didn’t commit.

“Sorry to bother you, Ma’am.” The driver’s gruff voice intruded on Sien’s thoughts. “But you wouldn’t happen to have a cell phone I could borrow? I need to call my employer regarding my next pick-up, and I seem to have left my phone at the office. I wouldn’t ask, but it’s imperative that we’re en route, and I don’t have time to make a stop just to call.”

“Oh! Sure.” Sien rummaged around in her purse until she found her little black phone. Sliding across the slick, black leather seat until she was close enough to hand the driver her phone, Sien held it up near his shoulder. “Here ya go.”

With a clipped, “Thank you,” he took the phone.

“Not a problem.” She slid back to her original position to give the driver a little privacy. It wasn’t far enough because the driver erected the tinted privacy glass that separated him from his passenger.

“O-kay,” she whispered, slightly insulted.

Trying to ignore the rude driver, she watched the beautiful scenery out her window. A hardcore type ‘A’ personality, Sien mentally sorted through her suitcase to ensure she hadn’t forgotten anything. It was a good distraction that she knew would help pass the time more quickly.

Toothbrush, hairbrush, hairspray, shampoo, conditioner.

Her cataloging was cut short when she saw the off-ramp to the Dulles International Airport go whizzing past. Head whipping around to look behind them, she frowned at the fading off-ramp. “Um, excuse me, driver? I think you missed our turn.”

When the driver didn’t respond, Sien slid back around to the privacy glass and gently knocked, “Sir! We missed our turn.”

Her temper began to flare when the driver continued to ignore her. Knocking harder on the glass, Sien raised her voice, “I’m sorry to interrupt your call, but we’ve missed our turn. I’m going to Dulles airport!”

When there was still no response, she shouted, “Hello! Can you hear me?”

She waited several heartbeats for a response. When none was forthcoming, her anger turned into panic as she checked her watch.

She’d scheduled everything perfectly so that she’d get to the airport with just enough time to board. Tanner was going to meet her there, and they’d depart directly.

Frustrated, Sien began pounding on the glass with her palm, “Excuse me! Driver! You missed the turn, and I’m going to be late for my flight!” She knew he had to hear her pounding, but when he still didn’t respond, her worry at being late turned into something else.

My pack territory is in Central Montana, between Stone Crow estates and the North Fortress. Born and raised in an untamed location that bridges the gap between rolling prairies and majestic mountain peaks, I am born to a family that also bridges the gap between cultures. My father’s people boast a fiercely proud Scottish ancestry while my mother’s tribes descend from two savagely beautiful and unique nations that inspire my Skin Walkers series. I'm a huge fan of MMA, boxing, hockey, 30 Seconds to Mars, Linkin Park, DMX, the Killers, and 21 Pilots (“sometimes quiet is violent”). I also love to read because it encourages me to write. (I hate it when authors add that they love coffee and chocolate. Really? Who doesn't love coffee and chocolate?) Anyway, I love beer...kidding. I don't love beer but we are engaged in a very serious relationship. (Mom, please don't call me when you read this.) Check me out at www.susanbliler.com Please leave feedback. Believe it or not I actually read your opinions/suggestions and try to adapt my work accordingly. A’hau.

Chapter 1

Scanning herself in the full-length mirror, Sien smiled her approval.  She’d been looking forward to her Hawaiian vacation for months.  Working long hours at Kincaid Enterprises to save up the extra cash for such a retreat had seemed a daunting task, but she was delighted to be getting a break from her non-stop workload finally.

In several hours she’d be landing in hot, exotic Hawaii.  Now though, Sien dressed appropriately for the frigid fall temperature of Washington, D.C.  Her black a-line skirt and sexy strappy heels were accented by the bright satin scarf tied around the slender column of her throat.  Her short-sleeved, black blouse was covered with a violet, knitted, waterfall cardigan that could be easily removed once she departed the plane.  Long, flowing, dark brown hair that swirled with hints of red, hung to the middle of her back, but she had an elastic hair tie wrapped around her wrist just in case.

Often complimented on her pure porcelain skin and soft brown eyes, Sien knew it was her full pouty lips that drew the most attention.  As a teen, she’d thought her lips too full and had grown self-conscious, but as a woman, she'd learned to accept and then appreciate her good looks.

Licking her lips, Sien spun and grabbed her handbag where it sat atop her bed.  Her best friend, Lillian, often teased her about her tiny apartment.  Lillian queried why Sien chose to live in such a small space as opposed to finding something larger for herself.  Sien could handle Lillian's comments on her apartment but dealing with Tanner Evans's barbs was almost too much.

Tanner was a partner for one of the local bankruptcy firms.  They’d met at D.C.’s Red Mass, an event held annually for individuals associated with the field of law. Even though she wasn’t an attorney or paralegal, Sien liked to attend for the sake of networking.  Tanner had introduced himself, and Sien had been pleasantly surprised by how much he knew of Kincaid Enterprises. He’d invited her to dinner. While Tanner had hoped and often pushed for their relationship to be more than the friendship that it was—even going so far as to suggest Sien move in with him—Sien was reluctant to agree.  But she wasn’t getting any younger, and if she waited for true love, she might miss her chance at it completely.  It's why she’d agreed to take this trip with Tanner.

Staring at herself in the long mirror hung on the back of her bedroom door, Sien exhaled deeply.  She knew Tanner might expect more than she was willing to give, and she couldn’t help but feel a little guilty like she was leading him on. But the prospect of getting away from the drudgery that was D.C. for what Tanner had called, friends taking a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Hawaii, had been too good to pass up. Opting to trust his friends only trip, Sien lifted both of her shoulders and grinned at her reflection.

Spinning away from the mirror, she scanned her room one last time before checking her watch.  A limo was scheduled to arrive in half an hour.  Sien had already lugged her suitcase, carry-on, and purse into her tiny living room, so all she had to do now was wait. Two seconds after she’d had the thought, she was startled by the doorbell.

Hurrying from her bedroom room and out to the living room, she cast her luggage a quick look, wondering if she had everything she needed as she rushed for the door.

Distracted, Sien opened the door and instantly tensed at the man standing there. Clad in black suit and cap, his chin was lowered. The guy was built like a damn linebacker. Broad shoulders pressed almost menacingly into the dark material of his tailored suit. His hands were covered in leather driving gloves, and his eyes were hidden by the dark felt Derby Bowler hat he wore. The hat didn’t hide all of his face though, and Sien took in his strong jaw lined with what looked like a day’s worth of stubble.

Uhh, y-yes?  Sien stammered, feeling a little uneasy as the man kept his chin down, his eyes hidden.

Limo for Miss Kyle.  Sien Kyle.

Uh, yes.  That’s…that’s me, but… She glanced at her watch. You weren’t supposed to be here for another half hour.

I could always leave and come back, Ma’am.

She bristled at the man’s clipped tone.  No, it’s fine.  I’m ready now.  She tried to sound apologetic, I just wasn’t expecting you so soon is all.

When his tall dominating figure bowed down to reach around her legs for a suitcase, Sien had to quickly back up to keep from brushing against him.

His thick bicep brushed her leg, and Sien jumped back even further, a little put off at how at ease this guy was with invading her personal space.

Turning, she reached for her carry-on, but his other arm was already there, snatching it from her hand.

Oh, I can carry…

I’ve got it, he grumbled before turning to stalk toward the car.

Sien watched him descend the front porch steps and cross to the trunk of the dark limo parked at the curb.  Nervousness washed over her as she eyed the thick expanse of his back and the way his shoulders and biceps bunched and flexed as he worked effortlessly to stow her things.

Snagging her purse, Sien locked the door behind her as she stepped out onto the porch. Pausing a moment to watch the driver, she caught only glimpses of his face.  From what she could tell, he was a handsome man with a great physique, but his attitude needed a serious adjustment.

Determined not to let him start her vacation off in a foul mood, Sien lifted her chin and tamped down her unease as she descended the steps.

The driver pulled open the rear car door and stood at crisp attention as if waiting on her command. The idea was titillating and had a sudden bought of naughtiness filling Sien. She stifled a giggle as she wondered if the driver had intentions of kidnapping her and whisking her off to have his way with her.

Biting her lip, she cast a glance at his thick arms and the fabric that strained to contain all that hard muscle.

Nice. Very nice.

Shaking her head to rid herself of her silly thoughts, she grabbed the door and accepted the driver’s gloved hand as she lifted a leg into the car.

Problem, Ma’am?

Ducking her head, she muttered a quick, No.  Everything’s fine.

Self-conscious now, Sien made sure to keep a hand at the back of her skirt as she folded herself into the back seat. The door closed behind her, and the driver walked around the vehicle with a predatory grace before he claimed the driver’s seat and started the car.

Watching out the window as her apartment faded into the distance, Sien exhaled long and slow as a satisfied smile tilted her lips.

Vacation’s officially begun!

Chapter 2

Sorry to bother you, Ma’am. The driver’s gruff voice intruded on Sien’s thoughts. But you wouldn’t happen to have a cell phone I could borrow? I need to call my employer regarding my next pick-up, and I seem to have left my phone at the office. Hmmm, suddenly polite when he needs something. Typical.

Oh! Sure. Sien rummaged around in her purse until she found her little black phone. Sliding across the slick, black leather seat until she was close enough to hand the driver her phone, Sien held it up near his shoulder. Here ya go.

With a clipped, Thank you, he took the phone.

Not a problem. She slid back to her original position to give the driver a little privacy. Apparently it wasn’t far enough because the driver erected the tinted privacy glass that separated him from his passenger.

Her temper began to flare when the driver continued to ignore her. Knocking harder on the glass, Sien raised her voice, "I’m sorry to interrupt your call, but we’ve missed our turn. I’m going to Dulles airport!"

Frustrated, Sien began pounding on the glass with her palm, Excuse me! Driver! You missed the turn, and I’m going to be late for my flight! She knew he had to hear her pounding, but when he still didn’t respond, her worry at being late turned into something else. An eerie feeling pressed against her skin as Sien’s annoyance morphed into full-blown panic.

Looking out the window, she realized the car was traveling much faster now, and she had no idea where it was headed. Quickly sliding back down the seat to her purse, she began rummaging through for her phone. If she called 9-1-1, she was confident she could direct them to her whereabouts.

Scavenging frantically through her purse, her hands suddenly froze. As realization dawned, she slowly lifted her head to stare at her startled reflection in the tinted privacy glass.

She’d given the driver her phone!

True terror shot through her as she realized his request for her cell had been a calculated one. The stupid musings she’d had earlier about the driver hauling her off to have his way with her suddenly slapped her in the face.

Oh, God! You stupid…

Eyes dropping down, she continued digging frantically through her purse for something…anything that could help save her. Silently, she cursed herself for being too proud to embrace the technological leaps society had made. She should have bought herself an Apple watch, e-pad, or laptop with wireless internet, or…something that could get her out of the situation she was in. A quick scan of the backseat revealed nothing to use to contact help or even for use as a weapon if she were, in fact, being abducted. She tried rolling down a window in hopes of flagging down a passing car, but the electronic windows on both sides of the vehicle either didn’t work or were locked.

A cold sweat had Sien feeling chilled and feverish simultaneously. With each passing mile marker, her dread slowly increased. Desperate, Sien lifted a door handle just to see if it would open. At this point, she wasn’t averse to diving from the moving vehicle if it meant self-preservation, but the door didn’t budge.

As cars sped past going the opposite direction, Sien pounded on the glass and screamed, Help! Heeeeeeelp! But with Autumn hovering at a brisk 30 degrees in D.C., no one’s windows were down, and even if they were, Sien figured the cars were all going too fast to hear her pleas. It didn’t help that the limo’s windows were tinted as dark as she’d ever seen on a vehicle. It was suspicious now, but she hadn’t even batted an eye at the tint earlier.

Shhhhhit!

Hands shaking, fear clogging her throat, Sien slid back to the privacy glass. She couldn’t keep the tremble from her voice as she spoke, L-Look! If…if you tell me…wh-what it is you want, we can work...wo…work something out!

No response.

There’s been a terrible mistake. You seriously have the wrong person.

Still silence.

Fisting her hands to stave off some of the shaking, she slid around to the other door and tried it too. She lifted the handle, and when nothing happened, she tried again, only this time she threw her weight into the door at the same time. It didn’t budge. Acrid fear ate at her stomach as she wrung her hands in her lap.

Oh, God! What should I do? What do I do?

Body rocking quickly back and forth, Sien’s thoughts were in a frenzy of possibilities of what was going to happen. It all hinged on one thing, who the driver was. Ax murder? Rapist? Cannibal?

For what felt like hours, Sien switched between screaming at the driver through the privacy glass, pounding on the windows trying to get the attention of passing cars, and throwing her weight against the passenger doors. She kept her eyes on the passing scenery, trying to take note of any signs they passed as she tried to figure out where they were headed. Her mind raced with all the terrible fates that could be awaiting her at their as-of-yet-unknown destination.

Wiping panicky tears from her cheeks, Sien scolded herself for crying at a time like this, but she’d never felt so many emotions in such a short amount of time. This morning she’d been nearly giddy with excitement. The excitement had morphed to annoyance with the driver then seeped to suspicion before exploding into full-on terror. She was disgusted with herself for having such stupid fantasies about the driver earlier. Now that she envisioned his strong arms choking the life out of her instead of holding her, they didn’t seem so enticing.

As the car slowed and turned down a dirt road, Sien plastered herself to the window. They were entering a heavily wooded area, and Sien knew that if she could just escape the car here that she might have a chance of losing her captor in the woods. Now, she just needed a way out of the vehicle.

I-I need to get out! she shouted. I think I’m gonna be…be sick!

The car didn’t slow.

And I need to go to the bathroom! Bad!

Still, the car didn’t slow.

Pleeeeease! she shrieked in desperation.

Nothing.

So, he wasn’t going to fall for any of her tricks? Fine. Sien looked down at her Louis Vuitton heels and cursed herself for dressing so feminine for a day of travel, but it couldn’t be helped now.

Shifting sideways to recline on the seat, she lifted her legs so that her right heel was on the glass on the passenger side door. Leaning back, she tried to spread her legs so
