About this ebook

Being a mind reader isn't all it's cracked up to be.

For one thing, everyday people do not know how to shield. Unfortunately most demons and things that go bump in the night do.
Which is why when a demon hides out in his sisters home town Devil is willing to do whatever he needs to in order to take him out-- even if it means working with a sexy secretive Traveller who makes it very ... hard to concentrate, and has an agendo fo her own.

"This was a fast-paced, not the ordinary, paranormal adventure. We have hunters, demons, shifters, and magic, but not from witches. We also have an established couple, and another couple with heat off the charts together! Once I started this story, there was no stopping, and with every new thing uncovered, I wanted to know what was coming next. Devil and Jewel simmered through it all, and when they finally had a moment to indulge, they were definitely as hot as expected!" _ Dar G, GoodReads Review.

    Devil's Jewel - Sasha White

    Introduction

    Dear Reader

While Devil’s Jewel is officially the first in the Hunter Protection Group series, if you haven’t read the prequel Seer’s Flame, yet, you might want to pick it up. It’s not a must, because there is nothing that happens in that story that will be referenced to in a confusing way for you if you haven’t. However, I do feel 100% that reading Seer’s Flame first will make Devil’s Jewel more enjoyable for you. Seer’s Flame sets up the world we delve into in this story, and helps you understand Gina and Caleb and why they are included so much in this story.

Also, a note. The heroine in this story, Jewel, and her sister, are Travellers . While they are of Irish or Celtic descent, for the sake of my story’s and my world, they are not traditional, reality based Travellers. My Travellers have some magic, traditions, and rituals that may not match reality. This is a fictional Paranormal series, so I have taken some license.

Also, There is a Glossary of Irish and Gaelic terms if you need it, but I tried to include them in a way that explained what they were as you read.

That said, I hope you enjoy this one either way. I found it to be a fast paced, rollercoaster of emotion, attraction, and action. Just the sort of story I love to read, and I hope you will too.

    Best,

    Sasha

    W e need your help.

Angelo Devlin was not a man who asked for help often, especially if he knew it could possibly put others in danger. As he forced the words past his tight throat, he made a mental promise to their dead father; he wouldn’t let anything happen to Gina.

It didn’t matter that she could kick serious ass when she needed to, she was still his little sister, and it went against every instinct to protect that he had.

What mattered was she was all the family he had, and by asking for her help in this, there was a good chance he was going to open up a whole new world to her - an evil one he’d and his father both had worked hard to protect her from.

Gina looked at him, her big dark eyes shining with happiness as she snuggled under her new fiancés shoulder. Whatever you need. You know that, Angel.

    Angel.

His chest tightened. She was the only one who could ever get away with calling him that, the only person who saw him that way. Those who knew him better, the teammates he worked with, his best friend, and certainly the psychopaths and other evil beings he hunted… they all shortened his last name instead of his first, and called him Devil. It suited him a lot better.

He’d sent plenty of things back to the hell they were born from. He’d sent his share of people there, too. There was no doubt in his mind that eventually he’d end up there himself, but he’d do everything in his power to make sure his sister never even glimpsed it.

When they were kids growing up they’d been inseparable. The two of them against the world, because they’d always known they were different. Not just because they moved around so much when their Dad was in the military, but because they each had a special gift. One that they hid from the world, but not from each other. One passed to them through their mom, who hadn’t been with them long enough.

His gaze slid away from the couple in front of him to his partner. Big, blond, and silent, unless he had something specific to say, Drake Wheeler was not just his partner in work, but his closest friend since they’d met ten years ago in boot camp more than a decade ago. Drake knew how much Devil didn’t want to drag Gina into their world.

You have to, man. We’re lost, and she can show us what we need.

Drake’s thought’s echoed through Angelo’s mind, and he tensed. Damn Hunter for not having a stronger psychic on staff at HPG they could use. The companies witch's location spell hadn’t done shit for them, divination had failed, as had remote viewing. Psychometry was their last shot at find the trail they’d lost, and Gina was the strongest psychic they knew.

Drake was right, they needed Gina. They’d been over it again and again, but that didn’t mean Devil liked what he was about to do.

Trying to hide his own thoughts, he turned to his sister. We’re looking for someone, and the trail has brought us this far, but we’ve hit a wall.

His sister was no idiot. She immediately what he needed. You have something for me to work with? My touch-sight’s been getting stronger and stronger so I should be able to help.

Devil smiled at the name she’d come up with for her secondary skill when they were kids.

What’s going on? Caleb Mann’s arm went around Gina and pulled her close, making Devil’s insides warm. His sister had a big personality and an even bigger heart; she deserved someone to share her life with. And it was clear Caleb was the right man for her.

It had been hard for Caleb to accept Gina’s psychic abilities, and Devil knew if things went the way he was expecting, his sister and her new fiancée could be in for some more ups and downs in their relationship. He swallowed a sigh.

    We need her.

Drake’s second reminder was more gentle, but Devil still had the urge to hit him. Sometimes having an empath for a friend sucked.

Then again, he knew there were times when his buddy hated having a telepath for a friend, too.

Snatching up the backpack he’d dropped just inside the door a couple hours ago, he waved his sister and her man to the sofa. Settling into the overstuffed chair next to it he kept the coffee table between them. I’d love to say I’m here just to visit, but that’s not the case. HPG was hired to find this guy, and we’re stuck.

She didn’t need to know they weren’t hired by anyone. He hated lying to her, but the less she knew, the safer she’d be.

    Caleb sat forward. HPG?

Hunter Protection Group, Gina answered for him. The private security company Angelo and Drake work for ever since they left the military. Everything from body guarding to private investigations, right?

    Among other things, yes.

Caleb’s eyebrows lifted. Being a mind reader must be handy in that line of work.

Devil ignored the tinge of sarcasm and just smiled. It can be.

So who are you looking for in Pearson, and how can I help? Gina asked.

We have something you should be able to get a reading off, and we’re hoping you can point us in the right direction.

Her brow puckered and the light in her eyes dimmed. There’s more to it than that though, isn’t there?

    His gut clenched.

Gina was no fool and now that her relationship with Caleb was on track, she was making it clear it was time to deal with him. She’d sensed it when he was in trouble in South America a couple weeks back, the same way he’d sensed her inner turmoil this past week - their matching birthmarks kept them always connected, emotionally – and she could probably sense that whatever he was doing in Pearson was connected to that trouble.

It was damn hard to keep secrets from a psychic, especially one he was linked to by blood. I’d prefer not to tell you anything else just yet, was all he said.

    She nodded. Okay.

With that covered, he reached over to the backpack, and took out a heavy plastic evidence bag.

As an open telepath, unless someone deliberately shielded him, he could pick up random thoughts and sometimes images from their minds. He’d worked hard to develop his talent and could control his range, and his openness easily. He generally kept thick shields in place to protect his own sanity, as well as people’s privacy, but there were times when even that didn’t work. Gina and Drake, both with psychic abilities of their own, also had mental shields, for the same reasons. So right then Caleb was the only open mind in the room, and his thoughts were starting to piss Devil off.

I’d never let anything happen to my sister, Caleb. She’s all I have and I love her, so lay off the threats already, he said as pulled the folded canvas from the plastic bag and set it on the table in front of Gina.

    Caleb stared
