Born to be a Star - Nicolas Galvan-Duque

Chapter 1: Illinois to New York

It was humid and hot. It was June but somehow the wind was foggy; it was raining and the clouds were ominous. It was a horrible day in Chicago, Illinois. And it was also a horrible day for Larry Hale who was moving from Chicago to New York, New York. Larry loved Chicago; he’s been living there since he was 2 years old; he loved the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Fire, but his favorite sport was soccer. He loved soccer; he’s been playing it since he was 5 years old. His soccer team, Chicago Rapid, was the best team, Larry was a center midfielder and he was captain of the team. He was the star of the team and every lot one loved him. That was one of the things that Larry was going to miss a lot; he was gonna miss it so much. He loved all sports also and he loved his house. As he was waiting in the garage his mom came.

All packed up, his mom said.

Yeah, but I wish I didn’t have to go, he said.

I know this must be so difficult for you, but we can get through it together, his mom said. She was right, all he needed was his family and a soccer team in New York. He hoped he would get on a team when he gets to New York.

All packed up and ready to go, his dad said. His dad was tall, had brown hair, and was a very open man. He also lived in Chicago since he was 8; he met Larry’s mom in NorthWestern studying for an architecture class. And they got married 5 years later. Ok everyone get in the car we are going to New York, dad said ecstatically. Larry let a big grumble as his dad said that. As he took a last look at the house, he remembered all of his memories he had in the house. As he got in, he wanted to run away. He loved Chicago but he hated being away from his family. When he got to the airport, he started to fade away; he loved his parents but he was mad at them for having to move to a new place.

Aw come on honey cheer up, mom said.

No, it is gonna be different from Chicago, I know I won’t like it there. Larry said sad. His Mom and his Dad just shrugged. I knew they felt bad for me, but I knew they were excited about moving to New York. His Dad was a boss at a big company, and His Mom has a class in the MET, she loves art and she loves to draw. They are going to have a great life, Larry is not so sure he will have a good life. The flight was long for Larry as he thought of good ways to fit in at school, he came up with nothing. When he arrived he was really sad, he took it badly at the airport. When he was in the car, he looked outside. He saw the Statue of Liberty, the one world trade center, and Times Square. Those are way overrated, Larry thought, completely dreading this whole thing. As time passed by, Larry just kept picturing Chicago in his head. Oh, how he loved Chicago.

Okay we are here, Dad said excitedly. He looked up and there it was, the apartment that they were gonna live in.

It does not look that bad, but our apartment in Chicago was way better than this one, Larry said.  Oh come on you haven’t even looked inside, Mom said feeling down. Larry knew that his parents were sick of him complaining, but he just missed Chicago so much. When he went inside the apartment, he saw the shortest apartment he had ever seen. The one thing he wanted to see was his room, that is the thing he was excited about, and also he was excited about entering NYCF for kids, he was told that they were the best team in the district. When he went into his room, he was not as surprised. His old room in Chicago was 5 times bigger
