Practical Steps To Quitting Porn - Joel Gates

    CONCLUSION

    INTRODUCTION

Addiction to porn can seriously damage relationships and take precedence over essential functions and responsibilities in a person's life. If you are addicted to porn, the behavior is compulsive.

What sets a porn addict apart from a keen interest in porn is the negative consequences.

With porn addiction, you spend too much time watching porn instead of communicating with others or doing essential tasks. The behavior persists even if it affects your career, your relationships, or your well-being.

    What research says:

Some psychiatrists have questioned whether addiction to pornography should be classified as an obsessive-compulsive disorder related to substance abuse or alcoholism. Most of their arguments are based on changes in brain activity that are surprisingly similar to those of regular drug users.

According to a study published in 2015 in the journal Behavioral Science, an electroencephalogram (EEG) can detect characteristic changes in brain activity (especially a reactive event called P300) when you watch porn. The reaction can occur within 300 milliseconds after viewing pornography.

Researchers have claimed that the same response occurs when a drug user examines the attributes or images associated with the drug. While the connection is hardly convincing in itself, it suggests that addiction to pornography has both a physiological and psychiatric component.

By reading this book, you or someone you know will try to stop porn and ask for help. Here's the good news: in most cases, you don't need expensive rehabilitations or retreats to get rid of your life for porn. As I mentioned earlier, reading a boatload of books and many blog and forum articles on recovering from porn addiction revealed that most of the advice is the same as that that cognitive therapists and psychologists give anyone trying to change a bad habit as harmless as swearing or biting their nails. Sure, there are a few differences, but in general, quitting porn is like just about any other bad habit of quitting smoking.

One important thing to keep in mind when you change a habit - whether it's smoking, drinking soda, or using porn - is that there is no miracle cure. Breaking the habit takes time, discipline, and commitment, and the process will be a little different for each individual.

The progression is also not linear. In a few weeks, you will be well on your way to abandoning the bad habit and replacing it with a new one, and in other weeks, you will have setbacks that will make you feel bad. It's normal. The key is not to swallow your backhand, but to wipe yourself and get back in the saddle.

So if you are looking for something that will solve all your problems, you will not find it here. Most of the tips and suggestions below are probably things you already know. The only secret to the use of habits is the will to carry out one's intentions. Experiment with the different tips below and find out what works for you.
