Remembering the Future - Jaume Alcobé
Chapter 1
I am very thankful to have the chance to say some words in this ceremony as the principal of this school. So, as you know, this had been four very long years. Full of hard work and dedication, midnight studying, and complications. All that hard effort you all did, was to get to this moment over here. This day is a day you’ll remember in the hard and gloomy days, in your successful and joyful moments. Every single time you need a new job, you will remember this day as one of the best in your life. The day you entered the door of this university, you didn’t know which things awaited you. You all were nervous, you were confused, you were anxious, you were afraid, you were...
Suddenly, between the crowd, Mike said, imitating principal Grob,
You were, you were, you were, you...
Shut up Mike!
Bill interrupted, Listen to principal Grob!
. Meanwhile, principal Grob was continuing his speech.
... so now you are grown-ups and you are ready for the real world. What a story you’ve had here at Wallsburg University! Four years of experience put in the real world. I hope Wallsburg university helped you all, 465 students, to be better people than you were when you entered that door four years ago. Have a great graduation day and have a lot of fun! Good luck with your life! Thank you!
Everyone gave a huge applause to principal Grob for his great speech. Then everyone scattered around the place to celebrate with their friends. Bill went with his friends. One of those many friends was Mike. Mike’s last name is Terry. Mike is that typical big, fat, but very friendly guy that one day suddenly he just becomes your best friend. He likes playing video games, sitting on the couch watching TV, but he also is very funny, imaginative, and creative. But, the best thing about Mike is that he would do anything for his friends, especially his best friend Bill. Anyone would like to have Mike as a friend.
Anyway, we were at when Bill went to celebrate their graduation with his friends. They were six, they were Ross James, Walter Giggs, Garry Martins, Andy Wilkinson, and obviously, Mike and Bill.
I’m very happy
, Mike started the conversation, I’m very happy that I finished university.
Me too
responded Garry.
But it is not only that you finished university, it is that we all did it together, as friends, as a team.
Walter declared bypassing his arms behind Ross’s and Mike’s necks. Then Ross added:
You know what? Walter is right, we all did it as a team. We all helped each other with homework. We all shared moments together. We all supported each other in the difficult moments.
Ross then made a short pause and then continued talking: This is a team, and I really think we are a team, you know.
Ross finished enthusiastically.
You are both very right,
Andy answered securely. I do think as well that we all supported each other to get to this moment. But what I think that was a great factor that led us to this success is that we all were secure of ourselves and sure of who we are, not caring about what other people say or think about us. We just pass through life like who we are in our own way. Insecure people spend most of their time trying to impress other people, trying to be part of the cool, and trying to be the best in everything they could and just to gain security for themselves. But in reality, the only thing they are doing is getting even more insecure.
finished Andy.
That’s how I passed through Middle school.
declared Bill while everyone immediately looked at him. In primary school I had a lot of friends, but in middle school suddenly some guys started to grow up much faster than other guys. So then a
cool" group formed and all the insecure boys started to blush those guys following them anywhere. They were doing exactly what they were told to do, no matter the consequences. But the problem is that lots of those guys have been my friends since the beginning! I didn’t want to be like the guys, so I stayed secure with myself. I went through Middle school in my own way and exactly how I was. I followed my own way of living. Finally, in High School we all paired up and we were all friends again. But in Middle school
