About this ebook
Become a remote worker and learn to be location independent in 2020 and beyond!
The trends all point to a future of employees, entrepreneurs, and freelancers collaborating and working remotely towards a common goal. This book provides the tools, lessons, and strategies for new digital nomads and remote workers to help achieve this laptop lifestyle. Avoid the costly mistakes beginners make and abandon the traditional location-based dinosaur model.
In this book, we discuss how you capture more freedom in life because you can't give what you don't have. You can't offer someone understanding without compassion. You can't donate money to charity if you're broke. You can't make someone laugh without a sense of humor. You can't feed someone without knowing how to cook. You can't give someone your time if you have none to offer. If you are a new or aspiring remote worker, either by choice or forced by your changing circumstances, you will find this book helpful.
This book is for:
- Current or new remote workers who are looking for answers.
- Beginners seeking the laptop lifestyle.
- Those who were laid off due to the Coronavirus pandemic or other factors beyond their control.

Digital Nomad Lifestyle Guide - Andrew Murdoch
Introduction
Not all those who wander are lost.
- J.R.R. Tolkien
How long have you been wanting to learn about the digital nomad lifestyle before you started to read this book? Before we dive in, I want to thank you for taking ACTION! You might not think starting a new book is taking much action, but it’s a single step into the great unknown. This book is intended for the newbie. This book is for someone who is seriously considering making a radical shift to live a more remote lifestyle. Like anything new, we sometimes need to dip our toe in and see how the water feels. Hell, you might be reading this book because you don’t remember the last time you saw a beach that wasn’t on Netflix.
Don’t be a statistic. The majority of people who start a new book don’t get past the first chapter. If that’s the case with you, drop this book immediately. I am not interested in wasting your time, and a single book download/sale won’t make a difference in my life. I’m going to continue traveling the world, eating different foods, experiencing new cultures, taking in the views, creating new friendships, and, well, you get the idea. It’s cliché to say this but I have to highlight it. Time is our most valuable asset! You can always go out there and make more money, but you will never recoup your time! Why read this book and waste your time if you don’t plan on doing anything with the information presented?
I’d like to offer a genuine and grateful thanks to you. Thinking back, I can remember getting on a one-way flight and feeling scared shitless. Thank you for taking charge of your life and considering a different path. Friends and family may not support your decisions and that’s okay. Ultimately, it’s just about being happy and feeling fulfilled in life. You picked up this book because something just doesn’t feel right, and you want to know if there is something around the next corner that will offer a fresh perspective. I hope I can shine a light on some options that were hidden to you before. They don’t exactly teach us this subject in the traditional education system. Mind you, they don’t teach us a lot of things in the traditional education model that would support us in the real world. But that is a topic for another book.
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Andrew Murdoch, and I have been working remotely and living the digital nomadic lifestyle for almost two years now. I have no plans of ever returning to a normal
lifestyle. I like to say normal is boring. Once you have seen the view from this side, it’s hard to imagine ever going back. The benefits of being location independent are considerable, and I’m willing to bet some are less obvious to you. We will cover many of the benefits of nomadic living in this book. Working remotely offers unique ways to avoid burnout, stress, and anxiety. Have you ever felt your life is a version of Bill Murray’s movie, Groundhog Day? I don’t. If things feel a bit monotonous and too familiar, I know it’s time to pick up and find another destination. Or perhaps you prefer the consistency of working from home? Perfect! Digital nomads get to choose where that home will be! There is freedom in that. Freedom of choice is the treasure at the end of the rainbow.
If you feel trapped, suffocated, confined or otherwise stuck
then it’s time to open your eyes and realize you have far more opportunities today than ever before. Do you hate your job? Feeling glued to a desk? Can’t stand your coworkers or your boss? Has your company been downsizing with everyone gossiping as to who will be laid off next? Maybe you escaped a failed relationship and need a change of scenery? Maybe it’s time to get away from the neighbor’s prying eyes? Are you struggling with massive debt? Budget travel and the digital nomad lifestyle might provide you the fast track to becoming debt-free! You are in your current situation due to a series of decisions and choices you made. You cannot blame anyone but yourself. Blame doesn’t even enter the equation. It’s time to take control of your life, be productive, and do something different!
Some years ago, a really smart dude said, The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.
Everybody loves quoting Albert Einstein, but rarely do people put that message into practice. Oh, and I hate to break it to you, but transitioning to live and work remotely doesn’t qualify as breaking the mold
anymore. A 2019 MBO Partners report shares that 7.3 million Americans have identified themselves as remote workers, many more than the 4.8 million stated in the 2018 report. That is a 53% jump in a single year! It’s no surprise that the increase of remote workers in 2020 will be exponential due to the coronavirus pandemic. This is a growing trend, and thanks to the exponential growth of the tech boom, there are no indications that this will slow. The rate of acceleration is accelerating! According to Peter Diamandis, four billion new minds
are about to be connected to the World Wide Web by 2024 at Gigabit connection
