Write something.
Schools are closed for the fourth week and my children are studying from home. My boy plays computer games with his friends via the internet, so he doesn’t crave the social contacts. My daughter feels very lonely because she is very social and really wants to go back to school.
The internet seems to be essential for all activities at home. If this virus would have hit in 2004, life would have been very different. The mobile phone has become my source of entertainment. TV is running reruns and the programing is really poor. Sporting events are nonexistent, which is a big part of life.
Watching television and the news, has become a depressing part of the day. Death toll rises and there is no end in sight. The networks are really feasting on this pandemic.
I watch the news and crave for information. Hoping the next news would be better and this all could be just a bad dream. It feels like this thing has been going on for months when in actuality its only been a little over 4 weeks here. Things happen really fast.
How to get rid of the fear? Even though this virus is like a bad flu and 80 % get it really mildly, the prospect of getting it is messing with my mind. I consider myself a smart and calculative person but somehow this information overflow
is piling up. Also the amount on misinformation online and on the news is not helping.
Summer is on the way and the sun is out. It helps with this situation mentally. The earth seems to be doing better. Something positive out of this situation.
HOME ALONE (NOT REALLY)
"Let’s just see if we can just make it through the day without any negatives."
After all, this is only week two?
Excuse me?
I said ‘Let’s try to …
Look. I’m right in the middle of something. Not now. Okay?
… without any negative(s).
This virus is vicious. It hasn’t torn my body apart (or hers) but it’s certainly torn my life apart.
Not hers. How ironic. LOVES her work. Well… maybe not exactly that. But she adores the add-ons. Special Projects.
Planning company events. The Big Meetings. Special parties and outings. Conventions. Arranging travel, hotels. Being the Girl Friday.
Center of her life, the projects.
But NOT now.
Not with COVID-19.
The metamorphosis was announced yesterday.
You know something?
I used to know a lot of things. I’m feeling as if I know nothing at the moment.
That’s not what I meant.
Sigh.
So? That’s what I meant.
Yes? So what did you mean?
If you really have to.
It’s just that I think it’s so much fun to be home. It’s like… like I’m released. Or… or I can set my own time. Don’t have to dress up. AND! NO meetings!
I thought you had… had ‘virtual meetings.’ Or something like that.
I really shouldn’t get into this. I wish I could just say: Why don’t you just get back to your computer and your spreadsheets and video calls and… putting up with the rest of them. Them and their inane problems that you’re somehow supposed to solve, and used to complain about all the time. I’m trying to work.
And suddenly she decides that just because she’s home she can handle these inane people without a glare or some sort of snide comments and no dark silences for the foreseeable future? Just get on with what she thought was the dull part of her work? No projects even? Just because she’s home?
I get out of some of them. The bad ones. I tell them I have to shop for my parents. Or have an appointment to call the doctor. Things like that.
She’s using her medical condition and/or her frail and isolated parents to get out of meetings?
So you lie?
Obviously.
"We all do it.
I had to call Jessica - one of the people in personnel? - the other day. She uses her kids to get out of it. The flu or sorting out a problem. Something like that.
So do any of them do the meetings?
Why am I interested? Am I?
"The bad meetings? Like… like… You wouldn’t really understand why the bad ones are bad anyway. You’d have to be there. Only the True Believers are always on-line.
And what does THAT mean?
"So anyway, I don’t
