The Case of the Washed Up Part Four - James Keith

    1

The ambulance arrived and the medical team was on hand to help with the injured Detective White. He was now losing consciousness very quickly. His blood had spread all over the floor and droplets were dripping down to the stairs below.

That fucking bastard. Good job he is dead, shouted Officer Swanson. Inspector Bronson still infuriated about the phone call he had received was not in the mood for silly games with Officer Swanson.

Shut your fucking mouth Swanson, he shouted at the top of his voice. Officer Swanson was furious, she clenched her fists, she wanted to hit Inspector Bronson. With all her strength she managed to contain herself before shouting back

Do not speak to me like that again!

Aren’t you meant to be watching Sarah Fisher? snapped back Inspector Bronson. Officer Swanson stood up as the paramedics had placed Detective White onto a stretcher. She slowly walked over to Inspector Bronson staring him right in the eye. Not breaking eye contact she stood up to him, looking up at his towering face above hers.

She is being watched, does it matter if it is me or not? Inspector Bronson was very intimidated, the cold dark stare that he was being given shook him to his very core. No one had ever done this before. He was frightened and could feel his face and hands becoming very clammy, thinking quickly he puffed out his chest and stared straight back into Officer Swanson’s eyes.

Officer, I need you to stand down, he replied. His voice was now becoming croaky. Officer Swanson could sense the fear, that was consuming Inspector Bronson, she was like a lion stalking her prey.

Of course, she said with a smile. She knew that she had sparked fear in Inspector Bronson and had nothing else to prove. She stepped back and walked towards the stairs of the lighthouse giving Inspector Bronson a wink as she followed the paramedics carrying Detective White down the stairs.

Inspector Bronson let out a massive sigh, he had never been made to feel so frightened before. Not by anyone, no criminal he had dealt with could put the fear into him like Officer Swanson just did. He bent down to pick up the broken pieces of his cell phone. To his surprise, the phone was still in working condition. Just a few bits had cracked off and shattered onto the floor.

Inspector, are you ok? called one of the officers who had seen the intimidation tactics displayed by Officer Swanson.

Yeah, all good. Inspector Bronson looked down at Jim’s body, blood had spread all over the floor. The single gunshot wound was fatal. He felt that he had failed the investigation and let down Leslie and Casey.

We need to check him over, said Inspector Bronson to the other officers.

Shouldn’t we wait for forensics to arrive? replied the officer.

Yeah, you are right. How do you know Officer Swanson by the way? asked a very curious Inspector Bronson. The officer walked over to Inspector Bronson and took him by the arm away from the others. It was evident that he did not want anyone to hear what he had to say.

We used to be partners on patrol. Maria is very heavy-handed; she doesn't like to listen to people’s shit. She is very old school shoot now and ask questions later. But instead of shooting, she likes to give a damn good beat down.

You are telling me she has always been violent towards others, even people who have not been charged? asked Inspector Bronson.

Yes, exactly. Maria was once a cage fighter, in her spare time, she would compete in cage matches against other women. She was undefeated, she only quit because of her intimate relationship with Detective White as he did not want to see her get hurt. Inspector Bronson could not believe what he was hearing. Officer Swanson was a cage fighter, undefeated and her relationship with Detective White was known with the other officers. Inspector Bronson had his suspicions about Officer Swanson ever since she mysteriously turned up at Leslie and Casey’s dorm following Casey’s murder. But now he believed that she
