    CUSTODY

    By Joseph Mauceri

Most high school couples don’t actually stay together, at least not anymore. Only fourteen percent of marriages are between high school sweethearts. Then again, that statistic was from 2007, it’s probably dropped since then. So, it should come as no surprise when your friends who’ve been dating for two years, three years, hell, maybe even since middle school, break up before college. I used to be a believer. I thought you could fall in love in high school, stay with that girl or guy all the way up to adulthood, and then take them as your lawfully, wedded spouse. That is, until David and Nat broke up.

I loved those two together. I wanted them to go through college, get married, and grow old together. That probably sounded a little weird, but they were my best friends. Who doesn’t want their best friends to get married, have three kids, and name their firstborn after you?

You see, I have a major social problem. People don’t always tell me things. I find out later. Matt’s getting surgery? Maia and Sean started going out?
