Jessica is a good girl who likes to think she's almost as sassy as her heroines... at times. It is her belief in true love and lasting passion that inspired her to write stories about loving alpha males and the women who adore them. She has a not-so-secret addiction to horror movies and cute, fuzzy animals; they both make her want to cuddle!

    Chapter 1

If you don’t come get your stuff out of my apartment before Monday, I’m going to throw it in the dumpster! I pressed the screen to hang up. I was pissed. I hadn’t seen him in over a month, but my ex still had boxes in my place. Boxes I had to pack, because he wasn’t going to do it.

He was always that way, though. I just didn’t see it. I enjoyed cooking for him, doing the laundry, and taking care of my man. I was even paying his college tuition, so we wouldn’t be stuck with a ton of debt once he finished school. My best friend, Tori, did see it, though. She told me he was using me, but I defended him, telling her he was going to college full time for his bachelor’s degree in computer security. Once he had his degree, he’d get a wonderful job making three times my teacher’s salary to start and then everything would be great. And I was right… partially. He did get an incredible job within a couple months of finishing school, and then he dumped me and moved in with some bitch from the HR department of his new job.

Well, I wasn’t going to worry about it this weekend; I was going to a New Year’s party that was just for me. It wasn’t fun having a December birthday; people always forgot it or gave me one gift instead of two—one for my birthday and one for the holiday—and I felt cheated. Not this year, though. My twenty-fifth birthday was going to be different. I scrolled through my phone contacts and pressed Tori’s number.

Hey chickie, came her voice from my cell, sounding cheerful as usual, what’s up? Ready for an awesome party weekend?

Hell yeah! I said, faking excitement.

Oh no, you sound a bit pissed and sad, Tori said. Did you call that douche again?

Well, yeah. But I need him to get his shit out of here. I glared at the boxes stacked next to the front door.
