When his overprotective ways drive a wedge between him and his sister, Juice is left in the mean streets alone with enemies watching and waiting to knock him off his game.

    Prologue

D ad, how come we can’t just stay home? Why we always gotta take these long trips with y’all? Young Gennico asked his father from the back seat of his parents’ Cadillac Escalade.

It was late at night, and he and his twin sister, Jennifer, had been dragged out of their beds by their parents once again. Gennico, the light sleeper of the two, woke up and wondered which motel they were going to be staying at this time. He hoped it was the one with the pool and room service again.

Because, Gennico, we’re the parents, and what we say goes, his father Gennico Sr. firmly stated. Gennico knew not to question his father, but he always managed to test his limits.

Stop talking to him like that. He’s at a curious age and after all, he does deserve an explanation as to why we keep dragging them out of their comfortable beds to sleep in dingy motels, his mom said, standing up for him. Gennico knew she would. It’s what she always did and that was the reason why Gennico always tested his father. He was momma’s boy, and Jennifer was daddy’s girl. When it came to Jennifer, she was an angel in her father’s eyes and couldn't do any wrong. One time, Jen set the microwave on fire trying to warm a pop tart up without taking the wrapper off. The whole microwave went up in flames. Their father laughed and went right out to purchase a new one. Let it have been Gennico, and he would have made him spend his allowance money to purchase a new one.

You can’t stay home, baby, because there will be no one to keep an eye on you, his mother, Rose, responded.

Ma, I’m ten. I’m a man now. I can stay home by myself. Just take Jennifer with you and leave me home.

It doesn’t matter what your father says. You are not a man; you’re still my baby, and you will not be staying home alone.

Ok, then let Franky come and watch me.

Yeah, I’m sure you would like that. That little heffa better not show her face around my way again. She should be in jail, Rose seethed.

Oh, cut it out. She ain’t do nothing wrong, Gennico Sr. stated with a chuckle.

    That girl molested my son.

Son, did you feel molested? Gennico Sr. asked his son.

    What’s molested?

    Exactly.

Nico, why do you seem happy about this? Rose asked her husband, referring to their last babysitter, Franky. Franky was a twenty-year-old girl that lived in their neighborhood. Nico and Rose hired her to watch their children while they were out of town working. They came home a day earlier and walked in on Franky completely naked with young Gennico fondling one of her breasts while his other hand was playing with her pussy. Young Gennico had the biggest smile on his face even after his parents walked into the bathroom on them. Rose stood by the door in shock as Gennico Sr., who couldn’t have been more proud, stood against the wall with his arms crossed and a smile on his face identical to his son’s. Rose, known around the way for having a perfect knockout record, gave poor Franky a nice two-piece and sent her flying out of the second floor window. That flight out the window left Franky crawling home with two broken ankles.

So what she let him get his feel on? At least she wasn’t feeling on him.

We don’t know that. That bitch is a child molester. She lucky we haven’t crossed paths since then.

Gennico didn’t bother to respond. He knew he could never win an argument with his wife. They crossed the Pennsylvania border twenty minutes ago and were now pulling in the Econo Lodge. A 1968 midnight blue Chevy Impala that had been following them since they left home in Jersey pulled in behind them.

Gennico Jr. quickly jumped out of the truck and ran over to the Impala just as the driver’s side door came open.

Uncle Flip, Gennico Jr. yelped excitedly as he jumped into his dear uncle’s arms.

My favorite nephew, what’s going on?

Nothing. I knew that was you behind us. You always got our back.

Always and forever, nephew, Flip responded. Flip was Nico’s oldest brother. The two of them had been stealing since they were in grade school. Flip was fifteen and Nico was ten when they started the art of thievery. They started stealing live roosters for an underground cock fight club ran by Guy Parks. He would pay them five dollars a rooster, so every week they stole a bird a piece until one got loose and attacked Nico nearly scratching his eye out.

After they gave up on the cocks, the Rodriguez brothers started stealing music records from the music store, cutting the price, and selling them on the street. Their sticky finger reputation soon died down as they got older. People thought they were laying low, but what they were really doing was sticking up small time dealers and bars. They even robbed the cockfight club that they once supplied. The Rodriquez brothers were ruthless, and it only got worse the older they got.

Uncle Flip, what’s molested? Gennico Jr. asked him as they walked to their hotel rooms.

What, kid? Why you asking about molestation?

Because momma keeps talking about Franky molested me, so now she can’t watch me anymore.

Rose, stop telling this boy he was molested. Shit, that little girl could molest me anytime she pleases. Nephew, don’t listen to yo’ momma. You weren’t molested. That was the first step in you becoming a man. You know what this mean? Uncle Flip asked him while putting up his index, middle, and pinky finger.

    No, what that mean?

Two in the pink, one in the stink. Remember that. You’ll figure it out once you get older.

Flip, don’t be tainting my child’s head, Rose responded, turning to her brother-in-law.

Too late. Why you think he like coming over to my house so much? I let him sit back with an Old English and watch the Spice Channel.

Flip, if I find out you letting my baby drink, I’ma two piece yo’ ass.

Welp, get your hands up because Nephew can finish off a whole twenty-two ounces on his own, ain’t that right, Nephew? Gennico Jr. side eyed his mom who stood there with the scariest look on her face, and he knew not to answer that question the wrong way.

Uh, I got to pee, he said, running off to the bathroom.

See, I mentioned Old English, and the boy gotta pee.

After making sure his family were all set in their room, Flip walked alone to his room where he started preparing for the morning ahead of them. He cleaned and loaded every one of the fifteen guns they brought along with them. He took out his Canadian Marksman rifle and started cleaning it. This was the most important puzzle piece to the hours that were soon to come.

Back in the other room, Rose and Nico prepared themselves for the biggest come up in their life of crime. Assuming both kids were asleep, the couple went over their plan over and over again. They were unaware of the listening ears in one of the full-size beds behind them. Gennico Jr. laid in bed with his eyes closed and ears open wide. He tried to go to sleep, but he was feeling restless and uncomfortable. His body wouldn’t allow him to sleep. He had chills, and the worst feeling in his stomach, but he didn’t know why.

The clock struck five in the morning, and the couple got out of their bed and got dressed. They kissed both of their sleeping kids on the forehead before leaving the room. Whenever they did this, they always made back before they woke.

They knocked on Flip’s door as they casually walked by. Seconds later, Flip was opening and exiting his room door. When they got outside, Flip tossed Nico the keys to the Impala as Nico tossed him the keys to the Cadillac. Flip gave them the bag with the loaded guns as he placed his case in the backseat. Flip and Nico gave each other a brotherly hug as they touched foreheads.

Be safe, little brother, Flip said.

Always, Nico responded as he ran to the Impala. Flip looked at Rose and gave her a head nod as she returned the gesture.

While in the truck, Flip pulled up the address of the First National Bank in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. It was a fifteen-minute drive from their current location. Flip had been doing surveillance on the bank and knew that the armored truck pulled up to the bank at 5:45 every two mornings. The officers weren’t allowed to step out the truck until they got the okay from dispatch and a backup cop car that sits outside the bank until the officers return to the truck and are safely and securely inside. Flip had this whole heist planned out to the minute.

He cruised down the road in silence as he mentally prepared himself. He rolled down the window and let the breeze hit his face. The sound of the wind always seemed to calm him down and help him focus on the task at hand. He got lost in his thoughts as he continued to drive. He was so lost in his head that by the time he snapped back to reality, he was around the corner from the bank. Flip and Rose pulled up next to him, and he told them where to go park to wait for the truck.

Once they left, Flip got out the truck and grabbed his case. He undid the padlock that he had placed on the empty warehouse and walked straight in shutting the door behind him. He walked up the five flights of stairs until he was on top of the roof. He started unpacking his gun, assembled the tripod, and placed his gun on top of the tripod. He positioned himself low on the ground to avoid being seen and used the scope to make sure Nico and Rose were in their position. The armored truck was due to pull up in three minutes.

Once he found them where they needed to be, he took out his police scanner and set it up next to him, turning the volume up loud enough so that he could clearly hear. He placed his eye back in the scope just as the truck came pulling up to the bank. He turned his scope towards Nico and Rose and quickly turned on the laser, signaling them to get ready. His watch beeped, informing him that it was time.

Flip looked back in the scope just as the patrol car pulled in front of the armored truck. The driver finally got out and started to double check their surroundings before cautiously opening the back of the truck. One of the messengers jumped out and was passed a small pulley cart. Once he had it assembled, he started to load it up with bags of cash before one of the messengers started pulling the cart towards the bank. Unknown to him, he was in the crosshairs of one of the top marksmen on the east coast. Before the messenger knew it, he was hit in the back of the head by a bullet. The second messenger ducked for cover and tried to run towards the bank but was also struck in the head. Nico was now walking up to the patrol car with guns drawn as he started firing into the police car striking down both of the officers but not before one was able to call in for backup.

Flip had already knocked off the third armored truck worker and was packing his gun up to leave. Rose was pulling around to the front of the bank with the Impala. Nico pushed the cart to the car and started loading the money in. Rose got out the Impala with her red tube of lipstick and was by the Armor truck. She drew her signature rose onto the Armor truck and hopped back in the passenger side of the car just as Nico was done loading the bags. Nico pulled off in the Impala and was heading down the road.

Flip, what’s it looking like on that scanner? Nico asked his brother who Rose had on the phone.

Bro, get out of there quick. They’re like thirty seconds out, Flip mentioned, but his calculation was off by thirty seconds because cops were now pulling up behind the Impala as a police vehicle was closing in the front. Nico always wanted to play chicken with someone.

What’s your plan, baby? Rose asked without an ounce of fear because she was confident that her husband would get them out of this like he always did. Nico pressed down on the gas and was ready to go head to head with the police car that was just a few feet in front of him. The officer driving the police car noticed the suspects were not stopping, so he veered off the road and into a ditch.

Woohoo, Nico shouted as he pressed harder on the gas and was now getting further away, but the cops weren’t giving up.

They were determined to catch the criminals that had just slayed five people. They chased the couple through town before they ended up on a road that was lined with nothing but woods. Rose reached into the back seat and took out the automatic rifle. She rolled down her window and started firing bullets at the patrol cars. Bullets flew through the patrol car, shattering the front windows. Bullets filled the bodies of the officers, killing them instantly and leaving the unattended vehicles to both swerve in different directions of the road and into the woods. Flip, on the other hand, was driving and picking off the officers from the back. Through the police scanner, he heard that more officers were closing in from the other side of the road.

Bro, there’s more coming. You need to find a way to lose them. Take the first cut off road. You have to lose them.

Nico and Rose were able to spot the officers coming in fast ahead of them. Nico knew there was no way to take them all on. Rose was firing at the cars ahead with her trusty automatic rifle, but the police managed to avoid the bullets. Instead, they were returning fire at the Impala.

A bullet entered the front end of the couple’s car, puncturing the radiator of the car and causing it to start smoking. For the first time, panic and fear overcame them both.

We gotta get out this car, baby, Nico said to his beautiful wife. She agreed. As the car’s speed started to decrease, the couple shared what would be their last kiss. Nico grabbed his bag of guns as the car came to a complete stop. They jumped out and started running into the woods with the county police department and the Pennsylvania State Troopers right behind them.

Nico! Flip yelled in the phone to his brother. As the officers started fleeing into the woods, Flip decided to start his own shootout right here on the road. He pulled out his handguns and started picking off the officers from the back as they ran off into the woods. He followed behind them trying to take out as many as he could. He started to head back to his truck. He thought he could meet his brother and sister in law around on the other side.

Before getting inside the truck, he stopped at the Impala and carried as many of the money bags as he could before the scanner alerted him that more officers were on their way to the scene. He hopped in the car and pulled off.

Deep inside the Pennsylvania woods, Rose and Nico were running for their freedom. For the first time, they had no plan and just prayed that Flip had one for them.

This way, baby, Nico called to his wife to change direction, and she did as instructed. They locked hands as they hurdled ditches and falling tree branches. Nico, with a gun in hand, started firing shots behind him. What seemed like a good idea was probably not the best. The police officers started returning fire at the couple. Nico heard his wife yell out
