    Endangerments - Ash Haq

    Chapter 1: The Note

Diego unlocked the door to his house and walked in. He heard his three week old daughter, Ashley, crying upstairs in her room. He ran upstairs to her room and ran to her crib and picked her up out of it.

There...there, he said to her, Daddy’s here.

He then noticed the bottle lying in the crib. He picked it up and felt it. It felt a little warm and a little cold. Nicole or whoever put it in there and left about three hours previously.

That’s when he noticed the note.

The note was lying on the little round table beside the crib. He picked it up and looked at it. It read:

    "Diego and Chad,

Slicer, Joe, Headslinger, Smokey, and Ashen took me to the old factory. You know, Diego, me and you passed it yesterday on our way back to the house. Please, hurry. If you can, Diego, come by yourself or come only with Chad. I’m scared. I know I don’t act like it sometimes, but most of the time I am. I don’t know why. I love you, Diego. Please. Hurry. They might kill me. Bye."

Diego read it a couple more times.

Chad, he said aloud, Come in here. They’re gone.

Diego was wired with a listening device. So anything he said, Chad heard it.

After five minutes Chad came in.

Where do you think they could’ve went? Chad asked.

It says it in this note, said Diego.

    Let me see it.

Diego handed the note to Chad. Chad read it out loud. After he finished, he looked up at Diego. He could see that he had tears in his eyes.

What are we going to do, Chad? Diego asked.

We’re going to do what she said, said Chad.

Yeah, but that could endanger her.

I know, but we have to take that risk.

    Okay, let’s do it.

But...what are you going to do about Ashley?

Let one of the agents take care of her.

With that said, Diego and Chad walked out of Ashley’s room, with Ashley in Diego’s arms, and walked downstairs. There were a couple of agents there. Chad walked up to them and told them the situation and said that they had to go back to the FBI building and to take Ashley with them.

After that, the agents that were in there took Ashley and left to go back to the FBI building.

Chad looked at Diego and said, Are you ready?

You bet, said Diego, which was really a lie. Diego realized what Nicole meant in the note. Every time he was scared or bothered with, Nicole was always there for him, comforting him, and being brave; acting brave. Now it was Diego’s turn. He had to be there for Nicole, comforting her, and being brave; acting brave.

    Alright, said Chad, Let’s go.

    Chapter 2: A Threat

Nicole was handcuffed to a pole. She couldn’t move. There was duct tape across her mouth. She had been sitting there for three hours, but she didn’t know that. To be frank, she had no track of time.

Across the room Ashen, Smokey, and Headslinger were playing rummy. Joe was watching them while Slicer was watching Nicole.

Then all of a sudden they heard: Hello? Is anybody here? Hello?

Nicole knew that voice from anywhere. It was Diego!

Slicer got up and walked over to Nicole with the gun in his hand. He put it up to the side of her head. He motioned for Ashen to go check into it. Then he turned to
