Joyce started writing at an early age when her mother told her to write down her thoughts, crumple up the paper, and throw it away. Little did she know her mother read each and every one! Joyce self-published her first book of short stories March, 2014 at the urging of her high school gal pals whom she reconnected with last fall after forty-five years of silence. Although her profession is that of a visual arts teacher, she finds writing to be a fresh creative outlet that she enjoys immensely.

I retired, I moved, I got lazy. Haven’t we all at one time or another? I didn’t stop writing but the idea of figuring out the program again and publishing was something that was easy to put off. The last two years my writing group, SolWriters, have keep me going. The group is a club of Solivita, a 55 community in Poinciana, Florida that meets twice a month, one day with a 15 minute prompt, the other with a group critique of completed writing. The stories that were written from a prompt response have the prompt in italics. The really short ones are the better responses that did not get worked on any further. The book is Encounters 4. Remember I said I was lazy. I created six book covers back when I first published a few years ago. Encounters 5 fit the cover I made for 5 which is why 4 was left until now, sorry for any confusion.
