The Magdalene Lineage - Reena Kumarasingham

    Shrouded Truth: Biblical Revelations

    Through Past Life Journeys

    9780956788757

Shrouded Truth: Biblical Revelations Through Past Life Journeys walks the path of enlightenment through Biblical references that follow the lives and messages of James, Paul, Mary Magdalene, Thomas, and others; and is a highly recommended pick for Biblical scholars from novices to advanced thinkers.

By reviewing these lives and their impact and messages on spiritual thinking, Reena Kumarasingham provides a direct connection between how and why these people evolved as they did and God’s greater purpose.

If this was the only approach supporting Shrouded Truth’s contentions, it would be effective in and of itself. There’s a lot more going on than biographical reflection alone. The information presented herein has been obtained not through studying Biblical events but by including information received from sessions of past-life regression. Therapist/author Kumarasingham has become an expert in the field, training Regression Therapists around the world in the techniques and possibilities of working with past-life information.

The story of Jesus Christ, when viewed from the typical scholarly and religious angles, is already notable; but when imbibed with insights gained from past-life regression work, it is particularly insightful: especially, here, where eight different people unrelated to one another contribute their versions of Biblical events and their meaning.

By now it should be evident that one prerequisite for appreciation of Shrouded Truth’s focus and contents is an acceptance of past-life regression. The memories presented herein popped up over a four-year period in different parts of the world and were experienced by common people who had no prior connection with each other or with Biblical scholarship.

This fact is, perhaps, one of Shrouded Truth’s greatest strengths, because it’s hard to refute or ignore the kinds of insights and connections that dovetail so neatly and explicitly in this coverage. Through serendipity and possibly determined spiritual effort, these disparate individuals came to Kumarasingham’s attention: thus, this book.

A second big plus to Kumarasingham’s approach is her attention to blending known, proven facts about the times with these past-life experiences. This makes for far more than a collection of impressions and ideas, linking historical fact to the new information.

The result is a unique blend of historical fact, verbatim chronicles from past-life regression narratives, and new perspectives on Biblical events that intrigues and invites debate from Biblical scholars.

Shrouded Truth is a unique, highly recommended Biblical study that should be included in any serious historical and cultural examination of Jesus’ life and times.

    D. Donavan, Senior Reviewer, Midwest Book Review

Shrouded Truth: Biblical Revelations Through Past Life Journeys by Reena Kumarasingham is an extraordinary and highly inspiring book that allows readers to experience Jesus through the eyes of ordinary people with memories of their lives during the period Jesus lived. The revelations are stunning and the reader will feel as if they are reading the unorthodox versions of the story of Jesus and of some of the key people in his life. The author explains that the people who participated in this book were brought to her through the principle of synchronicity.

The memories that are shared in this book – in the form of dialogues and interviews – popped up in sessions that span a period of four years. Reading this book will open one’s eyes to truths about the mystery of life. I have never thought of or ever imagined myself existing in another time and era, but the concept of reincarnation seems to be so real. One has no doubt that these stories are true and it is interesting how biblical references come out in the stories. Besides what we know from the scriptures as delivered to us, one wonders what the greatest event of history was like – the Resurrection of Jesus. This book is very inspiring, and it has knowledge that everyone who is curious about the truth and wanting to deepen their experience of Jesus should read. Reena Kumarasingham’s book is a rare gift of faith; a book that reveals a power and a spiritual reality that is very accessible to us.

Shrouded Truth: Biblical Revelations Through Past Life Journeys by Reena Kumarasingham is a fascinating and detailed account of past-life regressions of eight people who lived during the time of Jesus Christ. As one who assists people to visit their past lives, this author is qualified to write this book, and she also presents the accounts in a vibrant and interesting way that keeps readers turning the pages. Those who are intent on learning more about Jesus Christ through this type of journey will find this book to be a rare treasure. Each account is fascinating and offers a different perspective. I like how the author wraps up the book in the end, allowing the reader to come to his or her own conclusions rather than being firm about what the reader should think. I very much appreciate the author’s educated approach to past-life regressions. She doesn’t try to sell the reader on the concept, but lets the material stand on its own. Based on her notes, appendices, and the book’s overall tone, this author is a careful scholar and researcher. As a result, she offers a book that is an important entry into the body of works on this topic. Overall, this is an important book for those wanting to learn about past-life regressions.

    Introduction

For many centuries, patriarchy has dominated the mass consciousness. The unfortunate consequence of this has been the suppression of the feminine. Religion and, to a certain extent, spirituality were not immune to this. Even God is referred to as a He instead of a genderless being. It cannot be denied that the feminine representation has either been maligned or marginalized within many of the mainstream religious and spiritual philosophies and practices.

None can illustrate this better than Mary Magdalene.

Mary Magdalene – her name conjures up an enigmatic, mysterious figure from more than two thousand years ago. She is either a muse – inspiring tales and teachings, which fill our imagination with mysticism and feminine perfection – or a forgotten afterthought – a minor worshipping follower of Jesus, buried in the annals of time.

    Who was Mary Magdalene?

Was she an ethereal, pure-hearted, ideal feminine heroine who captured the heart and sensibilities of Jesus, one of the most charismatic, inspiring figures of our time? Or was she a prostitute, who had besmirched her personal reputation and that of all women, offered salvation by the Son of God?

Was she a sinner or a saint?

These questions do not only impact the perceptions of Mary Magdalene. They also impact the feminine in spirituality as a whole.

Five years ago, I embarked on a journey that was filled with synchronous meetings and events that led to the birth of Shrouded Truth. This book recounts the surprising events before, during and after the crucifixion of Jesus that mainstream narrative does not go into, through the eyes of eight different souls, via their past-life memories. The people who participated in this book had very little, if any, connection to one another. These memories popped up spontaneously, at different points in time over a period of four years, in different parts of the world, by ordinary people who were experiencing sessions for different intents and purposes. They had varying prior knowledge of the biblical stories – some none at all, and some rather in depth. Through serendipitous and synchronous events, all their sessions were recorded, and by their good grace and permission, Shrouded Truth was produced.

One of the participants of Shrouded Truth was a lady who we shall refer to as Maya. She had regressed back to the life of Mary Magdalene.

Maya, a British woman of Asian ancestry, was a client of a student therapist of the Past Life Regression Academy, who spontaneously regressed back to the life of Mary Magdalene during one of the student’s, Pam (not her real name), practice sessions. When Pam heard that I was contemplating this book, she referred Maya to me. Not having much exposure to the New Testament at all, and having limited prior knowledge of key figures and events of the time, Maya was keen to explore this life more thoroughly, to assuage her own curiosity. Under the condition of anonymity, she agreed to share all the sessions exploring her memories, including the ones she’d had with Pam, who also wanted to remain anonymous.

Mary Magdalene is a complex and marginalized figure in the mainstream Christian narrative, a symbol for the plight of females. She is portrayed as a repentant prostitute who became an ardent follower of Jesus after he graced her with salvation from her sins. However, within a different branch of Christianity, Gnosticism, Mary Magdalene is not only the main Apostle to the living Christ, but a Gnostic leader for the ages.¹

    What is Gnosticism?

In 1945, the discovery of the Nag Hammadi Library in a remote part of Upper Egypt changed the way scholars viewed Christianity.² Considered the most significant collection of lost Christian writings to turn up in modern times, it includes several Gospels about Jesus that had never been seen by Western scholars. Written on papyrus, there are forty-six treatises in the collection.³

Believed to have been in existence by the second century at the latest, these documents include mystical speculation about the beginning of the Divine Realm and the creation of the world.⁴These texts also express how humans came to inhabit this world and how we can gain deliverance from the material world when we learn the secret knowledge that brings salvation – or gnosis (the Greek translation). Those who were in the know are referred to as the Gnostics.⁵

The Gnostic vision of Christ is very different from the orthodox forms of Christianity. In the Gnostic view, Jesus was born a human, and was Christed during his baptism in the river Jordan, when he became enlightened to his innate unity with God. Christ to Gnostics is similar to that of Buddha in Eastern traditions – an enlightened being who teaches and initiates others on the path to enlightenment.

Within the Gnostic tradition Mary Magdalene is said to be the soulmate of Jesus, his closest disciple, his wife and consort, co-equal and co-enlightened with him.⁷ She is compared to the goddess Sarasvati of Hindu myth, the symbol of wisdom and learning.⁸

So who is the real Mary Magdalene?

I contacted Maya again, to see if she would be willing to participate in more regressions so that we would be able to access further accounts from her past life as Mary Magdalene. Maya graciously consented, and during multiple sessions spanning a period of around two years, the story of a truly remarkable woman unfolded.

Her story does not just end with her but continues on down her thriving but forgotten lineage.

Another client of mine, Rose resides in Singapore. I got to know her while I was living there. When I moved, we kept in regular touch. During one of those conversations, Rose told me that she had gone to see a psychic who told her that she had experienced a life during biblical times. I told her that when I visited Singapore next, I would regress her to that life, so we could explore it.

The opportunity presented itself four years later. I was visiting Singapore, and I dropped Rose a note to see if she would be willing to explore this life, and share the regression in these books. As with all the other participants, she agreed on the condition of anonymity.

What unfolded was yet another unexpected twist in this journey – she went back to the life of Sara (Tamar), the daughter of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Tamar, is a popular Hebrew name meaning palm tree, and Sara is a distinction for Princess. These names will be used interchangeably in The Magdalene Lineage to address Mary and Jesus’ daughter.

The revelation of Mary’s and Sara’s stories illuminates more than just their lives. Through their eyes, we discover the deep, profound aspects of sacred feminine spirituality that have long been suppressed and buried through the rise of patriarchy. However, there is a meteoric rise in the divine feminine consciousness at this time – and with it, the unearthing of these buried mysteries of sacred feminine spirituality, which can be recognized, embodied and practiced today.

Before we delve into the story, it is prudent to first address the big question: reincarnation, past lives and regression – are they real?

The immortal soul is an important part of all religions. The Egyptians had such elaborate beliefs about death and the afterlife that they built complex rituals around preserving the ka and ba (soul) of the person after death. Many modern-day Christians and Muslims believe in heaven and hell, that souls will be judged accordingly based on their deeds on Earth and that they will spend all of eternity in one or another as a result. Nearly 350 million Buddhists and 800 million Hindus believe that the immortal soul incarnates over and over again until it reaches the state of Nirvana. The Quran and the Zohar, the mystical texts of Judaism, both mention reincarnation:

And you were dead, and He brought you back to life. And He shall cause you to die, and shall bring you back to life, and in the end shall gather you unto Himself.

    – Quran 2:28

All souls are subject to reincarnation; and people do not know the ways of the Holy One, blessed be He! They do not know that they are brought before the tribunal both before they enter into this world and after they leave it; they are ignorant of the many reincarnations and secret works which they have to undergo, and of the number of naked souls, and how many naked spirits roam about in the other world without being able to enter within the veil of the King’s Palace. Men do not know how the souls revolve like a stone that is thrown from a sling. But the time is at hand when these mysteries will be disclosed.

    – Zohar II 99b

The early Christians, including some of the first popes of the Church, believed in reincarnation. However, the original references to reincarnation were removed from the Bible. St. Gregory of Nyssa believed that it is absolutely necessary that the soul be healed and purified; and if that did not occur during life on Earth, it should be done in future lives.

St. Clement of Alexandria also supported this belief; but perhaps the person most associated with the principle of reincarnation was his pupil, Origen, who included the reincarnation doctrine in his book On First Principles: Each soul comes into this world strengthened by the victories or weakened by the defeats of its previous life... Your actions in that world determine your place in this world (on Earth) which must determine the next one...¹⁰

The Fifth Ecumenical Council of Constantinople in 553 CE, three centuries after his death, reportedly decided against Origen and declared the doctrine heretical. Some believe that the Emperor Constantine removed all these references from the Bible at the Council of Nicaea in 325 CE, and that the only evidence is under the ashes of the Alexandrian library, which was destroyed.¹¹

Saying that, there are surreptitious references to reincarnation in the Bible, including John 9:1–2 which states: As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. ‘Rabbi,’ his disciples asked him, ‘Why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?’ The only way that this man’s sins could have caused him to be born blind is for him to have sinned before he was born in his current body.

Before we get into interpretive discussions around these religious texts, in a survey conducted by the Global Research Society and the Institute for Social Research (Ipsos), who surveyed more than 18,000 people in 23 countries, seven percent of the people surveyed believed in reincarnation, while 23 percent believed that we will only cease to exist. A 2009 survey by the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life found that 24 percent of American Christians believe in reincarnation.¹²

Let’s not forget too that respected academicians in the twentieth century believed in reincarnation. Carl Jung, in a lecture that he presented in 1939, said, This concept of rebirth necessarily implies the continuity of personality. Here the human personality is regarded as continuous and accessible to memory, so that, when one is incarnated or born, one is able, at least potentially, to remember that one has lived through previous existences. As a rule, reincarnation means rebirth in a human body.¹³ Dr. Ian Stevenson, a Canadian psychiatrist who worked for the University of Virginia School of Medicine for fifty years, as chair of the Department of Psychiatry from 1957 to 1967, Carlson Professor of Psychiatry from 1967 to 2001, and Research Professor of Psychiatry from 2002 until his death in 2007, spent forty years of his life researching 3,000 children from Africa to Alaska, who claimed to remember past lives spontaneously. Some of the anecdotes came from children who lived in rural areas, who had no access to mass media and are so detailed and personal that the accounts could not have been imagined but only recalled. His work was collated and written up in around 300 papers and 14 books on reincarnation, including Twenty Cases Suggestive of Reincarnation published in 1966. His work, plus Jim Tucker’s (his successor) and that of many others since who have documented past lives of children, is a strong indication of the existence and authenticity of reincarnation and past lives.

The first known writings that mention past-life regression – to access memories in past lives – is in the ancient Indian literature the Upanishads, but the Yoga Sutras of Patañjali (written in the second century BCE) consider the concept in greater detail. The Hindu scholar Patañjali discussed the idea of the soul becoming burdened with an accumulation of impressions as part of the karma from previous lives. Patañjali called the process of discovering these impressions past-life regression, or pratiprasav (literally reverse birthing), and saw it as a means of addressing current problems through memories of past lives.

Past-life regression rose to prominence in the West in the early twentieth century through the works of mediums and spiritual practitioners. However, around the middle of the century, psychologists, psychotherapists and academics started to conduct research into past lives and past-life regression, and use it in a therapeutic setting, and they developed a more standardized framework that most practitioners work with now.Noted experts in this field include Dr. Brian Weiss (psychiatrist), Andy Tomlinson (psychotherapist) and Dr. Roger Woolger (Jungian therapist).

A popular misconception of those who are skeptical is that people who experience past-life regression always experience lives of people who are well known – monarchs, celebrities, authors, artists. However, this is an inaccurate presumption. In my experience of practicing and training therapists in regression therapy, working with hundreds of clients and students, I have only encountered a handful of people who have experienced what is known as a high-profile life. Most of the experiences are those of peasants, soldiers and everyday people going through everyday trials and tribulations.
