About this ebook

In this book, the author uses logic and careful reasoning to prove that God exists. He explains how long-held arguments for God's existence are erroneous. Numerous misconceptions of God's relationship with us are dispelled, and the author proves that God is not aware that the universe exists or even that humans exist, even though He was involved in the creation of our universe and His intelligence is all over it. The book explains that God is not in control of the evolution of life. Moreover, God and nature do not try to design anything. There is a lot of randomness and luck.

    About the Author

If your reasoning is based on undeniable facts

with no assumptions made and perfect logic,

then your deductions must be courageously accepted, even when they are unbelievable!

    Preface

I construct in this book a rigorous proof for the existence of God. In developing this proof, I discovered elements of answers to the questions of what God is and what is His involvement. I discovered that the relationships between God, humans, the universe, and the earth are not what the Bible tells us or what people believe. My findings invalidate some deep-rooted religious beliefs and shatter our deepest intuitions.

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, intuition is the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference (https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/intuition). Without recourse to reasoning! This is scary. Intuition can easily lead us in the wrong direction, yet this is what people do to shape their view of God. Many of my findings are squarely impossible to believe. Paradoxically, my proof of God’s existence led me to discover that religions, the very institutions that are so devoted to God, have an incorrect view of Him!

Giving God human qualities is at the core of our confusion about God’s involvement with our universe, humans, life, its evolution, in physics and in religion. This confusion should disappear by the time you are done reading this book. But, in the process, you will have to accept what will be, at first, unbelievable! For instance, I will prove that God is not aware that the universe exists. Are you shocked yet?

My proof uses two undeniable facts about the laws of nature that will be mentioned later. I used strictly logical steps to get to this proof, and I had to accept my conclusions even though many seem totally crazy and not intuitive. I had to remain objective.

Note that pure and exact logical arguments do not guarantee a correct result because all logical arguments are based on premises that are assumed to be true and facts that are indeed true. If one of those premises turns out to be false, the end result is not reliable. For this reason, evidence and facts are necessary, and these often come into conflict with what we feel to be true. For instance, many people believe that God knows everything and that He is all powerful. By the time you are done reading this book, you will realize that this is not the case. This conclusion does not feel good to most people, so they reject it. But feelings may be triggered by a belief that is fallacious. Many people believe in God for emotional reasons. They want (1) a father figure to protect them from this frightening world, (2) someone who gives their lives meaning and purpose, and (3) something that stops death from being the end.

Until I wrote this book, I was convinced that it is impossible to prove that God exists. For to prove this requires elevating our intelligence to that of God and his wisdom, which is impossible. Also, many of us have the view that God is a spirit, a mystical entity with magical powers. So, there was no point in me taking this approach when I was already confused by these vague notions.

Among the cases made for the existence of God, the two most often used arguments are based in scientific knowledge and biblical knowledge. Scientific knowledge, such as the conditions necessary for life, or that the planet must be orbiting the sun in the correct region, does not provide a convincing argument. Many suppose inconsistencies in the theory of the evolution of life to suggest that God must be involved, but this does not lead toward a proof. The Bible is not helpful for proving that God exists since it is believed to be the Word of God. So, His existence is assumed from the start.

Nevertheless, we have two realities to suggest that God may very well exist: (1) the universe cannot have come from nothingness, and (2) the intelligence of the brain must have come from something intelligent. The first point is appealing because it seems so obvious. It resembles the cosmological argument proposed by philosopher Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century. But that argument fails to address the question of the first cause; that is, if the universe has a cause to its existence in the form of a creator, then what caused the creator? As for the second point, since intelligence is nonphysical, this suggests that it existed prior to the creation of the universe, hinting at God as the source. This reasoning is flawed because I could then conclude that other nonphysical things, such as my own thoughts, come from God. So, this approach is a dead end for my quest.

Atheists say that the burden of proof of God’s existence rests on those who claim His existence. I agree. Atheists argue that a person should only believe in things for which they have good evidence. They argue that because everything in the universe can be explained satisfactorily without using God as part of the explanation, then there is no point in saying that God exists. A counter argument is that the universe is such a beautiful and orderly thing that it must have been designed. Therefore, since the universe exists, God must exist. These polarizing views miss the point. As I explain in this book, design is an illusion!

On their part, atheists fail to explain how everything would have come out of nothingness. Since everything that happens has a cause, the universe must also have had a cause. That cause must have been God, as many people assume. Therefore, since the universe exists, God must exist in order to have caused it to exist. An atheist might respond by asking what caused God, and what caused the cause of God, and so on. The argument might proceed that if God did not need a cause, then maybe the universe did not need a cause either. If God was already perfect before he created the universe, why did He create it? How did it benefit him? Why would He bother? And if the universe was caused, perhaps something other than God caused it? This book provides an answer to these questions and many others.

My ex-girlfriend, very religious, sometimes read scripture verses to me. She believed that God is involved in everything, for instance, that God knows what we are up to, that the wind is a form of God’s communication with us, that God knows exactly how many hair strands we have on our head, and that our first encounter was predestined. I did not believe any of that, but I had no rigorous proofs. Unknowingly, she gave me motivation to seek a rigorous approach to understanding God. But I had no clue how to go about it.

Then one evening, my brother Gilles, retired physicist, phoned me to discuss various topics. He said, I believe that the mathematical equations that physicists have discovered come from God. I immediately replied that this is surely not the case. After the phone call, I started typing ideas on my laptop to prove my claim. Less than an hour later, I had deduced that there are no laws of nature (the reason for the double quotes will be given later). I was stunned! I did not know how to interpret that result.

I reasoned that if my lifelong assumption of the existence of laws of nature was wrong, then what else was I wrong about? Consequently, my mind shifted 180 degrees and I let go of my assumptions. I became as objective as possible. So, while my deduction seemed unbelievable, it was logically flawless and not based on any assumptions. So I accepted it and continued to deduce more stunning results.

After six months of deductive work, this book is the result. God is no longer in the realm of faith or belief; His existence is a fact. I now have a proof that the wind is not God’s way to communicate with us and that God does not know what we are up to every day. I have also debunked numerous other erroneous beliefs.

    Some Arguments for God’s Existence

Let us examine three of God’s best-known attributes as perceived by humans.

1.His omniscience. This means infinite awareness, understanding and insight. God knows all truths and accepts nothing false as true.

2.His omnipotence. This is unlimited authority or influence. God has the power to do all logically possible things—that is, he has the power to do all meaningful things.

3.His omnipresence. God is present in all places at all times. God is unbound by time and space. Not only has God created all things, but his presence is necessary to sustain them. God is present in all beings, but he is not all beings; this is contrary to pantheism, which is the belief that reality is identical to divinity, or that all things compose an all-encompassing, immanent god.

A six-sided square has no meaning, so God cannot conceive of it. Anything that makes no sense cannot come from God. Where do false ideas come from, then? They must come from our own brains. Many true statements come from us. For instance, a table makes sense to us, yet God does need to know about a table. There are surely meaningful things that God does not know about. So, God does not know everything. God knows all truths, but he does not know all truths directly from personal experience. Now, if God is all-knowing—if he knows everything every person will ever do—we have no free will. That cannot be. I can know my mother is about to sneeze without causing her to sneeze. Foreknowledge is not causality. Is God capable of foreknowledge?

Now that you have an idea of God’s attributes, let us focus on some proposed proofs of his existence from philosophical, religious and scientific perspectives. These arguments rest respectively on a strictly unbiased, logical approach given by philosophy, on intuitive perceptions of God’s design such as the world is beautiful and well-structured given by religions, and on objective facts given by science.

A proof goes as follows. Everything must have a cause. It is impossible to continue backwards to infinity with causes, therefore there must have been a first cause which was not conditioned by any other cause. That cause must be God.

My objection to this argument is this. If we allow one thing to exist without cause, we contradict our own premise. And if we do, there is no reason why the universe should not be the one thing that exists or originates without cause.

Suppose that the universe has a cause for its existence. That cause must precede space and time and therefore exist timelessly and non-spatially. This transcendent cause must therefore be changeless and immaterial because (1) anything that is timeless must also be unchanging, and (2) anything that is changeless must be non-physical and immaterial since material things are constantly changing at the molecular and atomic levels. Such a cause must be without a beginning and without a cause. That points to God, and I will demonstrate this to you with a rigorous proof in the sections God Does Exist! The Proof and An Abstract Proof.

Everything looks designed, therefore there must be a designer. I object to this reasoning since this assumes there is a designer. The cause argument would prove only a first cause. It would tell us nothing about the nature of that cause, nor whether the cause was physical or nonphysical. It would not prove that the first cause was God.

In addition to these philosophical arguments for God’s existence, scientists have also tried to prove the existence of God. The gravity of
