Introduction

Whether God exists or not has been a topic of hot debate for past centuries; and will be for centuries to come. On the one side of the spectrum, you have individuals who believe there is absolutely no possible way God can exist. In contrast, on the other side, individuals believe that there is absolutely no way that God does not exist. Both sides of the spectrum are absolutely sure that they are correct. What we do know for a fact is that one of these groups is wrong. In general, those who believe there is a God are referred to as believers, while those who believe there is no God are referred to as non-believers. This notion is actually far from the truth. Even if you believe there is no God, you in essence, still believe something.

I grew up in a conservative Christian home. During my teenage years, I was a devoted Christian and actively involved in my church. As I studied the bible – and gained some life experience – I started to develop some questions. None of the church leaders could answer these questions satisfactorily. Some of the leaders even told me that it is wrong to ask these types of questions. I had three main concerns with the bible at the time. My biggest concern was the cruelty that is described from Genesis to Revelations. How can a loving God get joy from the smell of sacrificed animals? How can a God that loves you condemn you to an eternal hell? My second concern was the accuracy of the bible. Not only are there numerous contradictions in the bible, but also the possible loss of information and accuracy due to the multiple translations and transliterations. So I wondered, how can you build your faith around the bible that has contradictions and translation issues? My third concern was the suffering and cruelty in the world. How can a loving God allow a baby girl to get raped? How can this loving God allow disease, severe violence, etc.?

Without answers to these questions, I lost my faith completely. I declared myself an atheist. Religion aside, life continued as usual. I enrolled in university to study Engineering and was bombarded with science. The more I studied science, the more I admired the miraculous phenomenon of life. And through science, I found new faith in God and His existence. After my engineering studies, I pursued studies in Physiology and Psychology – and through studying the human body, my faith in God has been cemented firmly.

This book aims to prove the existence of God. This will be done mainly through discussions on Life Sciences. I will conclude by explaining why there is suffering; and why we cannot state that God is causing the suffering. During my ‘atheistic phase’, several Christians tried to convert me by using the bible. Trying to convince an atheist by using the bible is the most ineffective method, as an atheist does not view
