Preface
Writing is not my 'thing' but give me a camera or microphone, I can create valuable content, but writing for me is a challenge.
I am sharing with you this because I firmly believe we have to face challenges to grow. As my headmaster Gregg Davies said, 'Challenge Creates Character' and I agree with that 100%.
What inspired me to write this booklet?
I was inspired to write this booklet on the day of my 26th Birthday. I always use my Birthday as a time to reflect on what I have achieved from the last 12 months and where I want to develop in the next 12 months.
So on my Birthday, I asked myself, 'what's my next passion project' and how can add value to my vision at education2sport.com.
Eduction2sport.com is a Sports Career Training Company that aims to supports university students, graduates, and individuals who want to pursue a career in the sports industry.
By listening to my gut, I felt it was the right time to write this booklet because I thought it was my responsibility to share with you my sports career development so you can apply them to your sports career ambition.
However, before we start, if you randomly picked up this booklet and you don't know me.
I better share my sports career journey and why I am curious about career development in the sports industry.
My Sports Career Story: How I went from 'Confused' to 'Clarity.'
In the summer of 2014, I graduated from Durham University, and the next step was to have the 'perfect start' by achieving these four things in no order:
1.Pass my driving test
2.Get a sports career job
3.Get my place
4.Discover the woman of my dreams.
Was I so wrong!
Reflecting now, I have learnt a valuable lesson, pursuing a career in anything but partially in the sports industry is a marathon, not a sprint!
At the beginning of my sports career, I was focusing on the 'quick wins' like the four points above.
Instead of building the foundations towards mastery and personal success, such as my skill sets, my sports network, and my area of expertise that I want to be known for in the sports industry.
Also, I learn a valuable lesson that is hard to teach in a classroom, and it's the 'Acceptance of Rejection.'
After graduating from University, my confidence took a hit, and why?
Reflecting, I had a mindset that thought 'I did everything right at University.' I had the degree, I did volunteering, I did internships, I worked to make money, I was in leadership positions in sports teams and societies. Can you relate to this?
Here is the truth, now!
Nobody owes you anything in life, and you got to find what you want and chase it.
BUT as much I agree with my last sentence above, after graduating from University, I did not have the grounded knowledge about the sports industry relating to my sports career ambition in these three questions:
1. Who are today's sports industry experts?
2. Which are the companies out there in the sports industry?
3. What did I want to do in the sports industry after University?
These three questions were in my head when I was figuring out my next move.
Thankfully it was not all doom at gloom for me because as I mentioned above, I did complete some work experience in the sports industry during my University summer holidays.
I did some work experience at Sky Sports & Soccerex, and I did have a tiny sports network after I graduated from University.
How I got work experience at
