    A POWERFUL RIVALRY

    Serena

Grass tickled her toes as she walked through the giant trees, which reached so high they blocked out most of the sunlight. The branches created many shapes and cast shadows across the foliage as Serena stepped further into the Forest of Ferrês. She couldn’t take her eyes off the flowers—they glittered in the rays of sunlight. Butterflies fluttered on the breeze and the sounds of wildlife all around gave her a sense of peace. The beauty that filled her eyes left her speechless. More sights amazed her as she walked along a worn path created by the creatures who lived within the forest. All the vibrant colors nearly overwhelmed her senses. A smile tugged at her lips as a bird with blue wings and black stripes glided down to land on a nearby stump.

The bird chirped at her while it preened its wings. Serena knelt down to get a better look at the little creature. The bird whistled and turned a black eye towards her. It didn’t fly
