ON TOUR WITH THE ONE & ONLY

‘HER VOICE SOUNDS FANTASTIC [AND] SHE IS HUGELY, EARTHILY CHARMING BETWEEN SONGS. . . . IT’S ALL BEAUTIFULLY DONE,’ WROTE ONE TOUR CRITIC

WARMING UP Just five nights before beginning her 2016 concert tour in Belfast, Adele sang When We Were Young at the BRIT Awards in London.

HITTING THE RIGHT NOTES After opening her two-hour shows with what one critic called a note-perfect ‘Hello,’ Adele performed quieter ballads (above in Belfast) and booming soul numbers with a full band, including a string section and backup singers, as slide-show portraits of the lady provided backdrops (In Birmingham, England, below). The Adele Live 2016 tour began in Belfast on Feb. 29 and hit Sweden, Denmark, England, Italy and other countries before visiting the U.S. and Canada.

FAN LOVEFEST Adele often invites audience members onstage to bask in the spotlight with her, as she did in Birmingham, England, where a young girl and her mum shared the love.

Also in Birmingham, Adele held the camera for fan Emily Bamforth and posed for another devotee (below).

In Stockholm, more selfies with two happy fans (above and below) as Adele wore a Swedish flag with messages of love taken from her own lyrics.

ADELE NATION Delighting fans with her cockney cackle and her barefoot performances, Adele enjoyed the audience interplay herself, waving madly at fans, noted a critic, like the Queen after a triple espresso.

RADIO-FREE ADELE Adele’s performance, with only the low-key accompaniment of keyboardist Miles Robertson and guitarist Ben Thomas, made Feb. 17, 2011, a memorable day at the National Public Radio studios in Washington, D.C. Adele was so into the music that she concluded her set by looking at her hands and exclaiming, I forgot to take my gloves off!

‘MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE,’ ON LATER . . . WITH JOOLS HOLLAND, 2008

She wasn’t quite the superstar she’d become, so it’s just her and a pianist on a TV set, tackling legend Bob Dylan with a stunning cover of his 1997 ballad.

LIVE AT KCRW, 2008

Adele does a stripped-down set of songs like Daydreamer and Right as Rain. (It’s a testament to the power of her pipes that she’s sitting for the whole performance.)

‘SET FIRE TO THE RAIN,’ LIVE AT ROYAL ALBERT HALL, 2011

The highlight from her concert film is a strutting rendition of this 21 cut at one of London’s most storied concert halls.

‘SKYFALL,’ AT THE 2013 ACADEMY AWARDS

When Jennifer Lawrence introduced Adele at the Oscars as being as irresistible as 007 himself, she was right: Her flawless performance of the James Bond theme had the celebrity-packed crowd in total silence.

‘HELLO,’ LIVE IN DUBLIN, MARCH 5, 2016

It’s fan-shot footage from her 25 tour date in Dublin, but you still get a taste of the emotional wallop her new production will pack: It’s just our hero, slowly rising from underneath the stage, as thousands of shrieking fans sing along.
