    THE ’80s

Big hair, don’t care! B&B launched in 1987, taking advantage of the decade’s over-the-top fashion trends. Ratings were soon as huge as the shoulder pads

GOING BOLDLY WHERE NO SOAP HAD GONE BEFORE This original cast photo featured patriarch and matriarch Eric and Stephanie Forrester (John McCook and Susan Flannery, front right) with Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) smack in the center—where the much-married vixen has been for 30 years!

The scariest moment in my life is when I hit page 1 of scene 1 of script 1, Bill Bell told the Chicago Sun-Times about co-creating The Bold and the Beautiful. He needn’t have worried. Stephanie covered it up, Ridge consoled himself with Brooke, and the stage was set for 30 years of sibling rivalry, hatred between the Forrester and Spencer clans and Brooke’s bottomless need for a man—any man, but preferably a Forrester man. And any Forrester man, that is, as long as he’s Ridge.

PATERNITY PUZZLE Margo (Lauren Koslow) blackmailed the married Clarke Garrison (Dan McVicar, left) for $100,000 to raise their secret son Mark, then further lined her pockets by wedding wealthy Bill Spencer Sr. (Jim
