About this ebook
One of the most challenging times in the life of a new follower of Jesus is just after they give their life to Him. The difficulty of now living with Jesus as King; the difficulty of trying to understand what it means to walk with Jesus; the difficulty of trying to understand what it means to fit in to a community or family where Jesus is the Head; the difficulty of trying to understand what to do when things get difficult.
In Walking with Jesus, author Ben P George explores key themes that the Bible explores on what it means to live as a Christian in this world, in an easy-to-read English format.

Preface
A conversation with a friend of mine made me aware of a lack of resources in easy English that someone could give to a new follower of Jesus. Something short and easy to understand. And so, I am writing this in order to help new followers of Jesus to keep walking with Jesus until heaven. In my conversations with people from a variety of backgrounds, these are the things most needed for new followers of Jesus. My prayer is that this book would encourage followers of Jesus to turn to God’s word, the Bible. My prayer is that this book would encourage followers of Jesus to give everything to God in prayer. My prayer is that this book would help followers of Jesus to remain in God’s grace until the Lord Jesus returns.
Assurance
I want to start with assurance, because it is such an important part of following Jesus. Assurance means being certain that we can get into heaven. For many people and cultures, being okay in the sight of God is impossible. And so, not being okay in the sight of God brings about fear, dishonour, shame and sadness. All of life is a struggle because we are so terrible, and it is fitting that God would punish us for not living as we should. And this real feeling needs to be met with the good news of Jesus. Because of Jesus’ death and rising from the dead, we are made right in the eyes of God. Because of Jesus, we have an assurance of heaven. This is central to continuing to live as a follower of Jesus. Without assurance, following Jesus would be about rules and guilt. With assurance, following Jesus is about freedom.
Assurance is having confidence in a promise. And the assurance of a Jesus follower is that we will be in heaven because we follow Jesus. We have confidence that Jesus will keep us safe. We have confidence that Jesus will keep our place in heaven safe. This truth is an important part of being a Jesus follower. It is powerful. It is true. And it is guaranteed, because it is about what Jesus has done , not what we need to do . The Apostle Peter teaches this very clearly:
Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is so good, and by raising Jesus from death, he has given us new life and a hope that lives on. God has something stored up for you in heaven, where it will never decay or be ruined or disappear. You have faith in God, whose power will protect you until the last day. Then he will save you, just as he has always planned to do. On that day you will be glad, even if you have to go through many hard trials for a while. Your faith will be like gold that has been tested in a fire. And these trials will prove that your faith is worth much more than gold that can be destroyed. They will show that you will be given praise and honour and glory when Jesus Christ returns. You have never seen Jesus, and you don’t see him now. But still you love him and have faith in him, and no words can tell how glad and happy you are to be saved. That’s why you have faith. (1 Peter 1:3-9)
When I was a young boy, a teacher from my local school was teaching me in a class of Special Religious Education. One day, she asked me if I knew that I was going to heaven. If I was certain that I would be in heaven when I died. I remember feeling very upset, because I didn’t know. I grew up knowing that I should follow God and that Jesus was a wonderful man. But I also thought it was very arrogant to think that I could be guaranteed of heaven. I remember people telling me that it was something that only God could know. Thanks be to God that when I asked my mother, she showed me that the Bible tells us about assurance.
You see, the question that we want to answer about our assurance is simple. How do we know that we are a child of God? How do we know that we are guaranteed of heaven? How do we know that we are really a Jesus follower? The Apostle John, in 1 John gives us the answer. The proof that we are followers of
