This work is in the public domain in the United States because it is a work of the United States Federal Government under the terms of Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 105 of the US Code rainy day the FARC rebels showed up at the small southeastern Colombian farmhouse, that had been a coca-processing farm, the one where the past owner tried to rob the vault up in Panama, using a charted plane a couple years earlier. The little farm was already converted to growing crops for the plantation workers, 15 miles (24 kilometers) further south to eat, a tremendous variety of fruits and vegetables, along with some cows, pigs, and chickens.

    FARC Rebels

    Wikipedia

The rebels demanded that the farm pay them about $1000 a month as an extortion, to support the rebels’ cause of fighting for the little people and farmers.

The farm manager told them that they needed to see Howard in the big plantation further south.

That farm manager called Howard as soon as the rebels were gone, so Howard was ready for the little delegation.

Howard and a group of eighteen farmers drove the semi that the Headhunters had painted up colorfully, to the location where the skinny road widens out, where the southern marijuana farm guard shack and driveway turnoff used to be located.

When the rebels, riding in a little two-ton truck were approaching, one farmer fired an anti-tank grenade and blew up the whole group.

Howard told the truck driver, "…Push the mess from blocking the road, and then let’s proceed to go protect the farmer from their retaliation.

One of the farmers suggested, ...Maybe we should hide the bodies so it really looks like the headhunters took them to their barbeque.

The whole group extracted the bodies, of what looked like 15-year-old kids, with only one older man, and drug the still smoldering bodies into the cornfield quite a ways.

When the semi got to the northern farm, they turned into the driveway, turned around, and set up an ambush.

Unfortunately, when the investigating pickup arrived, it went past the turn to the farm, and continued south; the dead group must have been in radio contact earlier.

They quickly pursued the pickup south toward the plantation, but never caught up with them, until they had stopped at the site of the blown up truck with no dead or alive people there.

The group of rebels quickly put up their hands in a surrender gesture when they seen the colorful truck coming.

The farmers quickly rounded up all the AK-47s, and then Howard told the group, a slight line of bullshit, …We allow you guys to exist, and neither oppose, or support your cause; we are neutral. We have much more advanced surveillance equipment than the Colombian government, or you guys, and know where several of your camps are located; never mess with Lorie’s Farms, and we will never blow up another of your camps; go tell your leaders that…

Once they were driving away, Howard told the farmers, Come back here with a back-hoe and burry the fuckers deep right there…

Then Howard called Sheldon, who was in the air along with 18 guards from Panama, heading there; Howard told Sheldon of the outcome of the situation. Not wanting to mention the details on the satellite phone, he said, The situation ended thirteen to zero, in our favor.

Sheldon replied, …We’ll come there to kick back a few days anyway…

The next day Sheldon, Howard, and Jeanne went over to the Venezuelan side to talk to the workers. They were all happy, now that the government jerks had quit coming around, and the flow of sugar was gradually increasing.

    Sugar

Sheldon talked to Lori later that night and they decided to purchase one more of the monster John Deer sugar cane harvesting machines, more tractors and trailers, and completely build a new sugar processing plant, about an eleven million dollar project altogether.

The next day they decided to build a big power plant that would burn the waste from the sugar plants. The wet material would go to a zigzagging drying area with a covering of glass to keep the rain off the stuff. A pipe from the waste steam from the turbine would go under part of the drying area, to increase the drying speed. A second set of pipes would come from the chimney of the boilers to assist in the drying.

This power plant would be big enough that they could feed power back from the Venezuelan side to the Colombian side again, on the cable that ran under the river several years ago, and then shut off the biodiesel power plants. (The solar panels would continue on the Colombian side.)

Sheldon decided, along with Lori, that they would no longer consider Venezuelan crops as organic, or limit their pollution in Venezuela; rather they would go for the maximum sugar/profit at this location, only until the political situation improves.

Golf on the Full Moon Island, Panama

It was about 80 degrees on the Full Moon Island in Panama this particular afternoon; there was a slight breeze and the smell of the ocean air was strong today.

Sheldon, Jeanne, Sue, and Joe were on the back nine of the new southern golf course, overlooking the ocean.

Today they were walking for the exercise, with two security guards driving Sheldon’s trick golf cart, with the clubs and a cooler, with about two gallons of diluted orange juice. Joe and Sheldon were both cutting way back on the drinking because Dr. Ralph had told them their liver enzyme levels were elevated, and they had to quit, or their livers would go; so for the last two years they had been drinking very little alcohol.

The other problem was the cigars; Joe had quit altogether about four years ago and Sheldon was down to about one a month, and even none for the last few months.

    Health

As Joe was about to make his putt, he faded to the ground trying to ketch his breath.

One security guard, seeing the situation, quickly called the nurses, who responded driving the Mercedes ambulance.

Sue and Sheldon got him to lie down on his back to conserve energy.

The nurse driving the heavy ambulance drove right up to Joe, putting tire tracks in the damp green.

They quickly had oxygen flowing to Joe, and then loaded him up into the ambulance.

The nurses determined that he was in too bad of shape to recover in their facility, and wanted to take him directly to a hospital on Panama City, that they had used several times for other patents.

They loaded Joe up into the Kingair ambulance, and then quite a group loaded into Sheldon’s 737 for the short hop.

The medical people determined that he needed surgery on his heart, but he was in good enough shape to wait for Dr. Ralph to get there for a second opinion, along with the Coronado’s chief surgeon.

Jeanne set them up with three suites in the new Trump Ocean Club, Panama, and they quickly filled up with Joe’s family.

Sheldon talked Melissa and Linda into staying put in Costa Rica with the kids.

That night, when Sheldon and Jeanne were finally settled in, Jeanne said, …That was scary; you better start taking it easier on the sex, or you will be next; from now on I will do all the work on top of you, while you just relax…

Sheldon liked that logic, so the fun began.

The next morning Dr. Ralph limited the visits to only 2 minutes by Joe’s mother, JR, David, and Sue, and then they dragged him off to the operating room, leaving the rest of the group in the waiting room.

About five hours later, the doctors came out and announced that Joe was in good shape, but could not have any visitors for at least 24 hours.

Then Dr. Ralph Snow continued, …in a few days, Joe needs to go where there will be absolutely no business pressure for at least a month, possibly the Full moon Island, or the Playa Pacifica… no cell phone and no business computer…

The next day, Joe and Sheldon discussed the situation, and then Joe and Sue discussed the matter; they decided to put JR in charge of the overall corporation, as far as all of the assets in the United States, Canada, and the farm and manufacturing plant in northern Mexico; while Sheldon would still be the main person for as the World Wide ventures go, with all the day to day decisions made by Sandy and the appropriate department heads and managers. David would assume total management of all expansion in the states and Canada.

They hired Alisha at $100,000 a year as a part time worker, to continue setting up the various medical facilities, with the agreement that she would go to $300,000 when she finishes her internship; she would, at that time, take over the medical department of the Quepos College and gradually expand it over the years. The company would build a large house/villa at each resort for her to keep, even if she breaks up with JR.

Sue would turn over more of her workload and decision making to Marsha Williams, one of the MBAs in the scholarship fund office, so she could be with Joe wherever he goes.

Joe decided that he and Sue would stay at Sheldon’s villa on the Full Moon Island for one month, and then move over to the resort in northern Colombia; but Sheldon reminded him of the continuing problem with the rebels, so they decided to go to the construction project in Guiana until the little resort opens. It is quiet in the plantation house, but later they will build some villas along the coastline.
