Author

Leen Lefebre

Leen Lefebre grew up in West Flanders where she works at the Local Heritage Service. As a kid, she threw herself upon each book that was available. Later, she turned around and settled on the worldwide web. She then emerged as a true explorer of literature, music, and sports. Leen is a dreamer and a doer – and this is how her stories rose up as charming and lively fairy tales for adventurers of all ages. Leen is dromer én doener. Zo zijn ook al haar boeken ontstaan: verhalen voor avonturiers – jong en oud.

    MISSION #5

    Wolf in New Madeira

Exhausted and frozen, Wolf stared at a celestial ceiling. His hands lay in his neck. Would Mother Nature ever find her mildness again? And why on earth did her Sun just forget about his country if he compared with abroad? He heard footsteps on the path; someone approached!

Still tired, pilot, or do you miss being in control? he made fun of him. Wolf felt Storm’s mouse-grey eyeballs stare at him, inquisitively. The man meanwhile warmed his numb fingers at the outdoor fire.

Since he got back, Wolf had spent lots of time in his bed yet he did not catch up on much sleep, did he? And what’s more, whenever that Chosen One wasn’t busy, he became a victim of unpleasant memories that led their own lives.

His mind then created daydreams about a childless Era, and nightmares about a dreadful unquenchable thirst and in fact all these nasty futures seemed real. They haunted him, and fatigued him.

Hey! Storm tapped him on the shoulder. Nobody in there?

At last, Wolf looked up. Uh – I’m fine, Wolf lied and now sat up straight. Storm squatted next to him, sighing, and shook his head.

Wolf raised his one eyebrow right away. Difficulties?

Storm nodded disappointed. It’s that climate-control system, it is much harder than I thought, Wolfie.

Wolf leaned back, and gave him an encouraging poke. You’ll succeed; there’s no doubt about that! He kept on trying to cheer him up. Come on, Sir, you can do anything, you are my hero!

Storm scratched his trimmed goatee. He smiled faintly.

You have to believe in it, Storm! You really need to!

    I’m sure you’re right...

They now silently peered into the dancing flames of the big central fire. What about the Frupon cultivation experiment? Wolf asked to kill the silence. Do you know anything about that?

Just go and have a look at Birdie’s place, Storm spoke. She shall be glad to tell you all about her project.

Are you coming with me? Wolf instantly forgot his worries as it would probably redirect Storm’s thoughts too.

No, I am off to the shed, he answered. My break has lasted long enough; a Master has to set a good example!

    I guess, Wolf jumped up.

With a rapid pace, he went to Ms. Blackbird’s remote home. Meanwhile he mused about Julia’s young healthy Frupon tree. It made him wonder what he would find at the lab.

The front door was ajar and he sneaked in. He shouted Ms. Blackbird? into the empty room. Where had she gone?

He sat down at the table by the fire and turned a chair towards the light. Then all of a sudden his eyes caught something. Was it what he thought it was? He stood up, took a step, and kneeled in front of some potted plants.

Wolf– you here? the biologist unexpectedly stood behind him in her laboratory coat.

    Wolf turned his head
