The Conception Of Cro
Cro opened his eyes and the darkness swallowed him. His entire being was submerged under an obsidian sky and the immense gravity of night pressed down on him. He surrendered to spasmodic convulsions, as a neurotic tremor coursed through his veins. The sensation gnawed at him, like ripples on the sea, yet he did not move. His existence was embedded in time and as he took his first breath, the kiss of death crescendoed into life.
Cro looked down and pondered over every limb. It was the first time he noticed his nudity. His hands affixed themselves to his legs and his body curled into the formation of a fist. He attempted to move but found that he could not will himself to do so. Engorged in the belly of Gaia, he received the gift of life.
He had spent a thousand years buried underground, his spine lodged into the rock. With every moment, Gaia shifted beneath him and the oppressive darkness dissolved. There was a small rumble inside of the earth and the rock swelled, breaking apart into pieces, as a long fissure cracked it in two. Debris and ash fell from the sky and he lifted his hands above his head to shield his body from the impact. A great light swirled into the darkness of the pit, encompassed by a cold draft of air that surrounded his body. No longer protected from the elements Cro shivered against the ground. His legs were curled like a fetus that had just emerged from it’s mothers womb. In the new light, Cro lowered his hands and stared into his surroundings. His retina’s recoiled and a searing pain traveled through his skull and he tried to adjust to the brightness around him. The vision finally came clear and He could finally see.
The world was larger than he anticipated. High rolling hills sprawled as far as the eye could see and trees with long spired branches, reached into the sky, the tips of the branches overshadowed the earth below. It was then that he saw it, two great wings fluttering above. The creature encircled him in a graceful motion before diving towards the ground. Body suspended between heaven and earth before landing a few feet away from him.
Cro sat up and saw the creature for the first time.
The moment their eyes met, his blood cycled between cold and heat. Light danced across the contours of her body, and he noticed that her skin was plastered in sleek silver feathers. She floated and when she brought her face close to his, her breath caressed him.
Cro stood aghast, as the world spiraled, and he could not catch himself fast enough. Only then, did he
