About this ebook

When a cruise line hires Ann Kinnear to get to the bottom of what caused two passengers on two separate voyages to jump from the balcony of the same stateroom, it looks like the perfect engagement: an all-expense-paid cruise from Hawaii to Vancouver. But when Ann finally makes contact with one of the victims, will anything be able to rescue her from the despair she encounters ... and prevent her from ending up on the bottom herself?

To be, or not to be, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take Arms against a Sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them ...
—William Shakespeare, "Hamlet"

When her brother and business manager Mike had gotten the call, it had sounded like a dream job: not only her usual daily rate and the promise of a bonus if she discharged the engagement successfully, but an all-expense-paid cruise (excluding alcoholic beverages, much to her chagrin). The cruise line would only pay for Ann, so Mike had stayed home in West Chester.

The first purser met her when she boarded.

You can imagine that we’re anxious to put this behind us, he said as he led Ann to the stateroom. One would have been bad enough, but two? We had to take the room off-line.

No one wanted to stay in it, I guess?

Oh, we probably could have booked it—there are always people who are attracted by events like these—but … He laughed nervously. … it seemed a bit ghoulish to put someone in there.

It was her first cruise, and perhaps not the best introduction. The incidents had occurred while the ship was on its way from Hawaii to Vancouver, so she boarded at the ship’s
