When you are a judge, people think you can do anything, and no one will say anything. They believe you can take a shit in the middle of the street or cross the red light without being bothered.
Well, actually, people are right.
Being a judge puts you on a level above others, but it doesn't make you better than anyone.
We still have to put the pants one leg at a time.
Being a court judge in a county makes you no less bored than a factory worker who stops at the corner bar and takes a drink and thinks he might have been happier if he had taken another turn in life.
That Tuesday, I drove my Land Rover back to the house.
Only I didn't feel like coming home.
Not at all.
Getting home, going to the kitchen, microwaving dinner, eating alone, then watching the newspaper, showering, and lying next to Valeria. To make matters worse, maybe she still wanted to fuck.
I wanted to do anything but go through it all once again in my life.
So I found myself a law judge entering a nightclub. I sat at the counter and ordered a shot of eighteen years old scotch without ice.
