    Alpha's Tutor - Fel Fern

    Chapter 1

Remy Carlson nervously checked his appearance on his phone camera. This wasn’t a lot he could do. Remy combed his fingers through his short auburn hair to smoothen the tangles. Remy’s white button-down shirt and plain black jeans were far from designer, but it had to do. Remy had just moved from the small town of Pine Creek—population just over three thousand, to New York just a month ago. He didn’t exactly have the time or budget to shop. Hell, Remy could barely pay his monthly rent.

Remy had always dreamed of moving out of Pine Creek after getting his teaching qualifications. Making a decent living in the city turned out to be a different story. Teaching posts had been filled out for most schools. The only reason Remy had this interview for a private tutoring job was because of his best friend and roommate Trish. Trish had lived in New York for several years and had a couple of connections.

Stepping out of the subway and heading to one of Upper Manhattan’s pricey neighborhoods, Remy started having jitters and self-doubts. From the snotty looks and upturned noses he received, Remy knew he didn’t belong here.

I can do this, Remy muttered to himself, stealing a quick look at the elevator numbers. What’s the worst thing that can happen? Mr. Drake won’t hire me, but at least I survived the interview.

Besides, Remy badly needed the job. To supplement his income, he acquired two jobs. Remy worked at a hardware store during the day. At night, Remy worked as a waiter at the nearby diner a few blocks from the crappy apartment Trish and he shared. The hunger to remain in the city and not to slink back home in defeat, made him take on part-time jobs, but Remy’s passion had always been to teach kids. He came to New York to teach and make a difference, not to take orders.

Remy stepped out of the lift, patted the professional leather satchel containing his documents, and headed for Ethan Drake’s unit. He didn’t know much about his employer. What Remy knew came from gossip and tabloids. Voted as one of New York’s most eligible bachelors, Ethan Drake became a millionaire in his early-twenties after running a successful start-up. He was bitten by a werewolf during one of his business travels in Asia, but Ethan didn’t let being a shifter interfere with his work.

Married twice, about to have his third divorce, rumors said Ethan was more interested in quickies and one-stand-nights rather than suffer through another relationship.

The more intriguing tidbit that interested Remy though?

Ethan played for both teams and didn’t give a damn whether it was a gorgeous lean male model on his arm, some minor actress, or a centuries-old vampire.

It didn’t matter Ethan was a lone alpha werewolf. Men and women flocked to his wealth and looks like flies. Working for a werewolf employer might frighten some. However, Remy grew up in a town that had embraced the presence of the supernatural after their big reveal twenty or so years ago.

Normally, Remy stayed away from dangerous men like Ethan. Not that it would be a problem. At twenty-three, Remy remained awkward as he had been at sixteen. Remy might have lost the pimples and the extra weight, but he still lacked self-confidence. Ethan’s only redeeming quality would only be his eight-year-old daughter Miriam, the girl he scouted the best mathematics tutor in the city for.

Remy was about to press the doorbell when the front door opened, revealing a pissed-looking and model-thin blonde in a cream-colored designer suit.

Sorry, Remy murmured, quickly stepping out of the way. His heartbeat in trepidation. Was the blonde another tutor prospect? What did Ethan Drake say to end the meeting in tears? Excuse me!

The blonde paused, rubbing her ruined mascara-lined eyes to give him a withering look.

Are you also here for the tutoring post? Remy asked.

The woman scanned his appearance from top to bottom, before giving Remy a scathing and self-satisfied look. Don’t bother wasting your time, handsome. Ethan Drake will eat you up and spit you back out without a second glance.

She turned and headed for the elevators.

Remy’s stomach churned. He felt uneasy, but he was still annoyed at the blonde’s flippant remark. Remy didn’t consider himself weak by any means, but maybe the woman had a point. He felt out of place here, in his sneakers and too-casual clothes.

Mr. Carlson? A deep and amused masculine voice asked, stirring Remy from his thoughts.

Remy decided he wouldn’t let anything else intimidate him. Not the place or the rich asshole standing in front of him. He turned, but one glimpse of Ethan made his cock perk in his pants.

Remy had seen hundreds of photos of Ethan Drake. Not a week went by when Ethan appeared on the cover of some tabloid with a new platinum blonde Barbie or gorgeous Adonis on his arm.

Those photos didn’t do him justice. Close-up, standing more than six-feet tall, Ethan practically towered over his 5’4" frame like some immense Greek God. Heck, Ethan had the features too—broad-shouldered and every inch of him layered in muscle under his designer suit.

Um. Wow. Hi. What? What kind of idiot said those three words to a potential employer?

Ethan’s sea-green eyes crinkled at the corners, and his generous lips curved into a secret smile. Was Ethan Drake amused by his reaction? Although Remy didn’t doubt Ethan knew what kind of effect he had on most men and women.

In his mind’s eye, Remy already began to imagine him shirtless. All that gorgeous bronze skin exposed, each hard muscle and line defined...those powerful hands closing over his arms, effective as any restraint....

Then Ethan would lower those sinful lips to suck at Remy’s neck, collarbones, nipples, and then his abs. Finally, Ethan would dip his hand lower, to jerk down Remy’s zipper, and draw out his hard and thickening member....

Found something you like, Mr. Carlson? Ethan asked. His was voice tinged with slight amusement. Underneath Ethan’s teasing though, Remy heard something else—something hard, wild, and firm. Ethan’s eyes pinned Remy in place with one scorching look alone. Made Remy feel naked and exposed, even though they were both still dressed and were total strangers to each other.

Jesus Christ. This man, this alpha werewolf, was dangerous.

Remy’s entire face flushed red. He nervously chewed on his lower lip. Remy couldn’t remember the last time he reacted this strongly to any man, although Remy wasn’t a virgin by any means. Remy had been with a few men in his life. Heck, Remy even dated a werecougar once. Remy wasn’t inexperienced, but he had a feeling playing with Ethan was like playing with fire. One single misstep and he might end up getting burned.

Mr. Carlson, I asked you a question. Ethan’s tone sounded more like a demand than a question, so Remy had to respond.

To Remy’s chagrin, all he managed was a weak mumble. Yes, that’s me. You can call me Remy. I’m here for the job interview, Mr. Drake.

Maybe reminding Ethan about the reason Remy was here would place things back on track. Surely a man like Ethan wouldn’t waste his time teasing an average looking guy like Remy. Ethan would have better use for his skills.

By all means, please come in, Remy. And you can call me Ethan. Ethan held the door open for him.

Remy glanced back at the lift where the blonde just left, and back to the smoking hot man inviting him in. For a moment, Remy considered the coward’s way out. It was ridiculous to back out now though.

Swallowing his nervousness, Remy entered. A quick look around the lavish apartment told him Ethan’s place was nothing out of the ordinary. It looked modern and contemporary, like most of the living rooms Remy had seen on the covers of posh interior design magazines. Very normal. Certainly, nothing that would ring alarm bells in Remy’s head.

Would you like a drink, Remy? Ethan asked smoothly.

Yes, please. Remy settled on the leather couch. He rubbed his sweaty palms on his jeans. Remy resolved to not let his man rattle him. He came here for a job interview, nothing more.

    What would you like?

Tongue-tied, Remy froze from pulling out his files in his satchel. Um.

A bottle of beer perhaps, to calm your nerves? Ethan suggested.

Relieved, Remy nodded. He accepted the bottle Ethan handed him. Ethan sat opposite Remy and gave him an expectant look.

Did Ethan want Remy to start?

Well, fine. It infuriated Remy a little why every little thing he did seemed to amuse Ethan.

Will your daughter Miriam be joining us? Remy asked, deciding to head to safe conversational waters.

Ethan looked surprised. No. Miriam is currently staying over at a friend’s house to do homework. It surprises me you’d ask about Miriam.

Why? I think any eight-year-old would like to meet the guy who’d torture her with numbers, Remy joked.

Ethan didn’t laugh exactly, but his lips curved to a hint of a smile. Remy wondered what kind of thoughts ran in Ethan’s mind.

Most of the tutors I’ve interviewed seem to be more interested in me rather than my daughter, Ethan pointed out.

That explained a lot, Remy thought, remembering the blonde who ran out in tears. Well, let me assure you this. The last thing I’m interested in is a potential employer. I’ve made a photocopy of my documents for you.

Remy slid the sheaf of papers across the coffee table. He was taken aback when Ethan’s large hand closed over his. Remy breathed hard, feeling the warmth and roughness of them. Those were the kind of hands Remy expected from a man who knew hard work, not a self-made millionaire.

There is no need. I’ve looked through the resume you’ve sent to my email. I must admit, Remy, I almost canceled your appointment because some of the applicants I’ve received had more impressive qualifications and experiences, Ethan ventured.

As if eight-year-olds needed Ivy League tutors, but Remy didn’t point that out. Besides, if he had the money, Remy wouldn’t hesitate to get the best for his kid.

I’m aware of that, but can I ask why you agreed to see me anyway? Remy asked curiously.

"The photo on your resume intrigued me, Remy. Meeting you in person, was an added and unexpected bonus,’ Ethan murmured,

Remy nervously pulled back his hand. What did Ethan mean by that? Thankfully, the conversation went back to why Ethan needed a tutor for Miriam in the first place.

Miriam has always been a good student. Well, up until the unfortunate divorce with my wife Lindsay. Ethan kept twisting his ring finger, where a wedding band once rested.

Remy didn’t know why he stared at the white line there. Why Ethan being single and available would be his concern. Remy had a personal policy never to date his employers.

Remy once dated a fellow teacher in the high school he worked at. Look where that led him. The worse part wasn’t being found out, it was the two years of awkward silences in school halls and during teacher conferences.

Back then Ethan thought he was on a completely different league from Ted. Even if Remy got this job, the stakes were much higher. Remy didn’t think he could stand doing odd jobs forever. One positive recommendation from Ethan Drake could land him more tutoring gigs.

Well. It looks like I’ve heard all I needed to hear. Will you be able to start this Friday, Remy?

Remy had to process Ethan’s words twice before they sunk in.

    I’m hired? Remy asked dumbly.

Remy had expected more questions regarding his qualifications and teaching experiences. He even practiced in front of a mirror the night before to ensure he appeared confident and professional. If Remy brought up his concerns though, Ethan might have second doubts. Remy wanted, no needed, this job.

Yes, unless you’re waiting on other job offers? Ethan asked.

No, of course not. Thank you, Mr. Drake. You won’t regret this, Remy quickly said.

Ethan held out a hand, which Remy shook.

Ethan didn’t let go immediately. Instead, he tightened his grip. Not to the point of pain, but enough to make Remy feel uncomfortably aware of how close they were. Remy’s breath caught in his throat.

Don’t make me say it again, Remy. Call me Ethan or—, Ethan mused.

Or? Remy prodded. He suddenly wished he didn’t, because a knowing smile spread on Ethan’s lips.

Ethan left that thought hanging. I don’t wish to scare you off. Have a good evening, Remy.

Ethan gently nudged Remy out of the apartment. Remy paused, wanting to find out what exactly he missed, but decided against it. Besides, Ethan might change his mind about hiring him, and Remy couldn’t have that.

    Chapter 2

Ethan loosened his tie in irritation. After a long tiring day at the office, all he wanted to do was relax. His sour mood lifted immediately when he caught sight of Remy and Miriam at the dining table, still busy at work. Ethan placed his briefcase down. He wasn’t surprised to see neither Miriam nor Remy had noticed his arrival. Hiring Remy had been a good choice. Remy had been tutoring Miriam for only a month, and Miriam’s academic results had remarkably improved. Even better, Miriam seemed to like Remy and started seeing him as an older brother. Ethan had never seen his daughter this excited about her studies either.

A month. Damn, Ethan murmured under his breath.

Finally, Remy tore his attention from the textbook on the table to look up at him. Remy gave him a brief nod of acknowledgment, before returning his attention to Miriam, who asked Remy another question.

Had it only been four weeks since Ethan hired Remy? It sure felt longer.

Since the first time he saw Remy, both Ethan’s human and animal half knew they wanted to mate Remy. Not wanted, but had to have. Ethan didn’t think a single encounter would cut it.

Each time his wolf caught a whiff of Remy’s scent—a mix of soap, mix, and cigarette smoke, Ethan’s jeans felt a lot tighter. It became a lot harder for Ethan rein in his beast.

Worse, Ethan kept imagining what the tempting and sexy young man looked like naked
