Daniel

The rush of wind and the loud sound of the whirring engine filled the cabin of the helicopter. Daniel Sanders was on his way to a private island off the coast of Hawaii to get a story for his magazine The Local Vibe. The magazine gave him interview pieces because he was good at it. Even though he did it well, he wanted to write something completely different from what he normally wrote. He wanted to write for the gaming industry. This trip would bring him closer to his dream than he could have hoped for in the past.

Beside him in the helicopter cabin, his assistant Andre held onto a tablet with information regarding his schedule. At their feet, they had two bags for their luggage. The helicopter did not have a place to store the bags so it had to sit in the cabin with them.

The pilot was a seasoned and salty man that had graying hair and a handlebar mustache. He was wearing shorts and a Hawaiian button up shirt. It gave him the weekend surfer appearance. If it were not for the wrinkles on his forehead and around his eyes, Daniel might have found him attractive.

Daniel appreciated a good-looking man. He had been single for some time since his last boyfriend had broken up with him. They had broken up right before Valentine’s Day too which added salt to the wound. He did not feel prepared to get into another relationship yet. A friend had later told him that his ex-boyfriend had been cheating on him while they were still together. It really hurt to discover that information. Daniel was the type to fall in love quickly but it took time for him to heal from the emotional scars.

Andre turned toward Daniel, yelling over the roar of the helicopter blades.

I didn’t realize the flight over to the island would take so long sir!

Andre had blonde hair and was in his mid-twenties. He wore a white button up shirt with black dress slacks. Daniel had told him he could dress down for the trip. Hawaii weather would be both hot and humid at this time of year.

The reason for the trip to this private island was a party that was held by Maxwell Harrington. Daniel volunteered to get the story from Maxwell as he was one of the biggest names in gaming right now. The man had crowd-funded one of the most successful games and released it to the public through his company. Daniel was hoping that he would get a great story for the magazine and that it would lead to more stories in the gaming industry.

Daniel loved his job and didn’t mind the travel. He got to see a lot of the world. In the same regards, he never felt like he got any rest on these trips. The locales were vacation hot spots but he was always pursuing the story for work. There was no time to relax. He would be glad when work was wrapped up because he would be able to return home to his cozy apartment. He had a plush couch that he wanted to break in with television shows that he wanted to catch up on.

When Daniel began to address Andre, the helicopter pilot pointed his finger out the window.

We are almost at the island. It takes a while to get out here, but you are in for one hell of a vacation. There is no place like this on earth. Paradise Resorts.

Andre crossed his legs at the knee, looking down at the tablet. His finger kept tapping on the screen to look up some information. His blue eyes looked out the window to see the private island off in the distance. The resort was a four-story building with a modern design while still incorporating the natural feel of a getaway location. The third and fourth floors had balconies for the guest rooms.

The hour was getting late with the sun starting to set on the horizon. The outside of the resort was decorated with tiki torches that lit up the outside to make it easier to see at night. When the helicopter landed on the helipad, Daniel could see lots of people wandering around the resort. They appeared to be having a good time and dressed similarly to the helicopter pilot. If they were not dressed like that, they were wearing swim trunks and bikinis. With the loud whirr of the helicopter blades slowing down, Daniel could hear the beat of music and laughter in the air. The source of the music came from inside the resort. This is why Daniel was here. Maxwell Harrington was hosting his newest game launch party here. It would prove to be quite the affair. Expensive too as everything had to be flown in from the main island.
