About this ebook

We are living in the End times when deception is rampant, even in the Church. The writers of the New Testament warned of false prophets arising in the midst of the Church at this time, even as in the Early Church.  Jesus also said that in these times, there would be many false christs who would deceive many.  Even now, there are at least seven noted ones in the world claiming to be Christ. We need to be aware of this danger; too many in the Church are asleep. God wants us to desire, recognize, and know the true anointing of His Holy Spirit so that we might stand strong in Him, free from deception.  We trust that this book will help you to understand the true anointing, and to draw you nearer to the Anointed One of God so that you will flow as one with the Spirit of God.

The True Anointing - Lois Kropf

    ldkropf@yahoo.com

    INTRODUCTION

Jesus said, Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8:32).  Peter admonishes us to be established in the present truth (2 Peter 1:12).  One of the present truths we need to know today is the truth about the anointing.  Discerning between the real and the false anointing, being able to distinguish whether a doctrine or prophecy or a ministry comes from the anointing of God’s Spirit, from the human spirit, or from a false anointing of a fallen spirit is very important.

Scripture warns us that in the last days many shall be deceived.  False Christs (which means those with a false anointing) shall arise and many shall fall away.  Jesus said in Luke 21:8: Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. Second Thessalonians 2:1-10 says: Now we beseech you, brethren. . . Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;  Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. . .For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.  And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:  Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

The above scripture gives a key as to why many are deceived – they don’t love the truth.  Another reason people are deceived is because many Christians accept whatever is prefaced with the words, Thus says the Lord, as being from the Lord without properly discerning its source. They have not been warned against false prophecy and have not learned to discern the true anointing.

Isaiah 10:27 declares, the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. There is so much bondage in the world and in the Church.  Satanism is on the rise; the New Age movement has deceived many; witchcraft holds many in chains; certain recreational drugs that are highly addictive have been legalized; false religions that are empowered by the anti-Christ are causing upheavals in nations; the iniquities of the fathers have overtaken the children.  But when the darkness is greatest, the light shines brightest.  The glory of God is arising in our day, bringing deliverance and hope to many by the anointing of His Holy Spirit.  Many yokes are being destroyed by the true anointing.

We trust this study will help clarify what the anointing is by identifying the features of the true anointing.  Herein is contained some keys to distinguish the true from the false.  May we be stirred with a burning desire to seek the Lord for a greater measure of His anointing in our lives and ministries.

    CHAPTER 1

    DEFINITION AND APPLICATION

First of all, let us consider the meaning of the word anoint.  The dictionary defines the original word in Hebrew mashach as to rub over with oil, i.e. to anoint, by implication to consecrate.  This word is first found in Genesis 31:13 and refers back to Genesis 28:18, when Jacob poured oil upon the pillar of stone that he had used as a pillow.  That night he had had a vision of the angels of God ascending and descending upon a ladder from heaven.  In verse 16, Jacob said, Surely the Lord is in this place, and I knew it not.   Jacob poured the oil to indicate that God was there.  The presence of God had overshadowed him, even as the oil covered the pillar.  Thus we see by the law of first mention that to anoint means to pour oil over something, indicative of the presence of God, more especially the Third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit.

In the Old Testament, the anointing oil was applied in three different ways.  The most common method was to pour it on someone or something, as Jacob did the pillar.  Moses poured oil upon Aaron and his sons when he consecrated them to the priesthood.  On this occasion, Moses poured the anointing oil upon their heads, and it flowed down over their whole bodies.  Samuel anointed both Saul and David as kings by pouring oil upon them.  See 1 Samuel 10:1 and 16:1-13.  Zadok did the same to Solomon; Jehu was also anointed king in the same manner.  See 1 Kings 1:39 and 2 Kings 9:6.

Usually, except in certain instances, as in the case of King Saul, the anointing oil was poured out of a horn.  In the Scriptures, the horn speaks of strength, and in type, when we are anointed by the Holy Spirit we are given special strength and ability.  God’s anointing horn is full; it has no measure (John 3:34). Jesus had the Holy Spirit without measure.   However, He limits the anointing He gives us according to our capacity. The anointing gives us strength and transcends all physical limitations.  The Third Person of the Trinity is overshadowing and pouring the power of the Almighty God through us.  How wonderful and gracious He is.

The second method of applying the anointing oil was by sprinkling.  After the oil was poured upon Aaron and his sons, Moses clothed them with the special garments God had commanded.  Moses then sacrificed an animal and sprinkled the blood and anointing oil upon their garments (Leviticus 8:30). When used together the blood and the anointing oil had significance.  In the Old Testament type we see that when sin is committed, the blood of Jesus Christ is needed for cleansing. In addition, a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit is needed to strengthen and keep that person from falling into that particular sin again.

The third method of application was to rub or smear the anointing oil on all or certain parts of the body.  At the ceremony of cleansing a leper, the High Priest took the blood of a sacrifice and the anointing oil and smeared them upon the right ear, the right thumb, and the big toe of the right foot.  It was common practice to smear the bodies of the dead with oil, though not the holy oil, and also to smear the body with oil at special times of celebration, as in Ruth 3:3.  They massaged the oil into the bodies.  This is symbolic of God imparting His grace to us through the Holy Spirit, working it deep into our lives.

Throughout Scripture, oil is a type of the Holy Spirit.  Therefore, the anointing refers to the Holy Spirit descending upon someone, equipping him for a special purpose.  This may happen to an individual, or collectively when the Holy Spirit comes upon a group or a congregation.  This gifting of the Holy Spirit anointing gives supernatural ability to fulfill the will of God – whether it is to prophesy, heal, deliver, preach the Word, do miracles, or receive grace to perform a difficult task God has commissioned us to do.

    CHAPTER 2

    THE ANOINTING OIL

In Exodus, God commanded the practice of anointing by pouring oil upon people to consecrate them or set them aside for a specific purpose.  Exodus 28:41 says: And thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest’s office.

The oil with which Aaron and his sons were to be anointed was a special compound for which God had provided the recipe.  It was to be used for the Tabernacle furniture and vessels, for Aaron and his sons, for the sacrifices and cleansings, for only holy purposes. Any use
