    INTRODUCTION

It all started with a simple summons in my mailbox. When I received this piece of paper, I simply thought it was just going to be one day. I never get picked for juries ever, they never even picked me as an alternate. This time, I was picked for all 18 months of it. Why am I now an indentured servant of the government? It is only one day a week but it is almost every week. The court house is actually one of three Federal Buildings. There is this court house, that the grand jury is in, the other two are across the street split by a road only open to foot traffic. A court house, and the federal jail, which has its own court house attached to it. They are all patrolled by a security force.

The purpose of a grand jury is to protect the rights of people accused of crimes by the government. The government has to show the grand jury that there is enough evidence and reasonable doubt of the accused's innocence, to go ahead and take the accused to court. If the grand jury sees it is reasonable that the accused are probably guilty of what they are being accused of, then the grand jury will give what is called a TRUE BILL, which is essentially, the grand jury giving their approval for going to trial. The grand jury does not determine whether the accused is guilty or innocent, only weather it is reasonable that they might be guilty, and should have a trial. Every trial that happens in the United States, both criminal and civil, happens because a Grand jury felt that it was reasonable to assume the accused were guilty.

Discussing a case that has come before a grand jury for review, outside of the grand jury room until the trial of the accused has completed, is a felony. This is to protect the rights of the accused, and not compromise all evidence involved in the case.

This story is a work of fiction based on my experience on a grand jury, any similarity to any real case or litigation was not intended. I hope what you find will be enjoyable to read, as I have found it enjoyable to write. This is just a work of fiction, and I hope that anyone who feels differently, will understand that, I meant no harm. As the writer my personal feelings about guns are in here, however I do not want to diminish anyone's right to protect themselves or their family. That is not what this book is about.

    Chapter 1

    DISPLAY CASE

Where it all began, a man only know as Ben, was arrested for murder. When they found him with several thousands of dollars, as well as several large firearms including automatic weapons, three cell phones, and a dead woman, in his car. He was in a very nice, new Jaguar. He was pulled over because, there was what looked like blood dripping from the trunk of the car. He was wearing a black suit that had blood on the shirt being covered by the jacket. His knuckles were bruised and bloody. He claimed that he was an artist, and that he got paint on his shirt, when the paint had spilled in his trunk. When the police opened that trunk, they found a dead woman in it.

He changed his story quickly to the dead woman being his girlfriend. He was taking her to the hospital, after the two of them were attacked by a mugger in the park. She must have died on the way. When asked why he put her in the trunk? He explained that it was her car, she was bleeding, and didn't want blood in it, so she told him to put her in the trunk. After the police took
