For Christians, the starting point for acquiring wisdom is the Bible. This is because God has chosen to reveal himself authoritatively in his written word as demonstrated by the life and ministry of our Lord. Jesus himself modeled biblical wisdom through fidelity to the holy Scriptures in his messianic call as the Son of God. After his baptism, three times Jesus rebuffed Satan’s temptations with the preface, it is written
(Matt 4:4, 7, 10). Indeed, Jesus was resolute in his mission to fulfill Scripture faithfully and obediently. He viewed the Torah, the Writings, and the Prophets as revelation directly from God that spoke to all of life, and especially Jesus’ own mission and work. From his baptism at the beginning of his ministry, where God defined his ministry in terms of Psalm 2:7 and Isaiah 42:1 (Matt 3:17), to the very end of his earthly ministry, where he quoted Psalm 22 from the cross and explained his identity as risen Lord to the disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:27), Jesus knowingly acted to both explain and fulfill Scripture. Therefore God calls Christians today, those who are in Christ
and in union with Christ,
to follow Jesus’ example by devoting themselves to Scripture-directed lives regardless of vocation and
