    Chapter 1 - Ruth

    Ruth had always been considered a little strange, introvert, odd, some said publicly, what they really meant was completely crazy. But she didn't care what other people thought of her, she didn't need them or their validation, their opinions washed over her without leaving any stain. She was contented in her own world, a fascinating and wonderful world in her mind, she wasn't crazy.

    How did she know that for sure? she always smiled when the question was posed, Josie wouldn't lie to her, Josie never lied, and she had been her best friend for years. Josie was the only true friend that Ruth had ever known, she had been with her since…? Well she couldn't answer that with any certainty, Josie had simply always been there with her, encouraging her, comforting her, guiding her, protecting her.

    And Ruth needed her today, she was nervous, she couldn't ever remember being as nervous before.

    Josie, where are you? she whispered quietly so the other passengers on the bus wouldn't overhear her, Where are you? she implored.

    You don't have to do this. the familiar voice comforted her.

    We already discussed this. Ruth whispered, You know I need this job.

    Josie snorted, You had a perfectly good job before, I was happy where we were, now you drag me half way across the country... for what?

    Oh Josie, she replied, That was a dead end job, and you know it, and anyway, I want to meet new people, see new places, I was sick of that village... don't you want a few new faces in our life?
